hi guys,

just today Bayantel (our country's telco company) made a visit to our three storey house. they were interested in installing a 9 meter high cellsite (for wireless landline and internet services) on our roofdeck. w

they have a contract ready and they would pay us $300 a month for the "rent" and would pay the electricity bill. sounds good enough, a concern though is radiation. how safe is this going to be?

the contract states that we must agree to a 10-year plan. they will cover all costs regarding it's maintenance and building.

what do you guys think? should we agree? if it is safe, i guess the extra income wouldn't hurt.

  1. 10 yrs ....hmmm thats about the length of time the "experts" are saying that it takes for RF energy to give you cancer..If they will throw in a clause, that will cover your medical bills/funeral expenses from cancer then maybe it's worth it....but maybe not, cancer is not fun at all....

  2. sounds enticing

i'd do it, tell them to throw in free internet as well as phone bills

    =D

  3. Of course it's RF -- that's how mobile phones work!

By design, most of the RF energy goes out sideways, not straight down.  So directly underneath the mast is probably the safest place you could be -- if it was even dangerous.  Note also that strength of signal varies inversely with the square of distance (at 2m. it's a quarter of what it was at 1m., at 5m. it's a twenty-fifth of what it was at 1m. and at 10m. it's just a hundredth).

See if you can talk them into giving you all handset upgrades, unlimited free any time / any network minutes and unlimited free text messages!
