Should we always fight for equal rights for men and women, no matter what the issue?

For example, in the case study presented below should we support Loretta's right to have a baby?

JUDITH: I do feel, Reg, that any Anti-Imperialist group like ours must reflect such a divergence of interests within its power-base.

REG: Agreed. Francis?

FRANCIS: Yeah. I think Judith's point of view is very valid, Reg, provided the Movement never forgets that it is the inalienable right of every man--

STAN: Or woman.

FRANCIS: Or woman... to rid himself--

STAN: Or herself.

FRANCIS: Or herself.

REG: Agreed.

FRANCIS: Thank you, brother.

STAN: Or sister.

FRANCIS: Or sister. Where was I?

REG: I think you'd finished.

FRANCIS: Oh. Right.

REG: Furthermore, it is the birthright of every man--

STAN: Or woman.

REG: Why don't you shut up about women, Stan. You're putting us off.

STAN: Women have a perfect right to play a part in our movement, Reg.

FRANCIS: Why are you always on about women, Stan?

STAN: I want to be one.

REG: What?

  1. Lol, you're funny - but as you know, science is moving ever closer to the reality of a box to gestate a baby in - so maybe Loretta will get her wish after all :-)

  2. The meaning, "equal rights", needs to be understood by all.

If a man wants to have a baby or a woman wants to (help me out here, I can't think of one example....), anyway, do something that only a man can do, then it has nothing to do with their "rights", but it has everything to do with their physical or mental "abilities".

Therefore to answer your question: No, we do not need to fight for the absolute impossible or for what is not ours to fight for in the first place.

A wise and intelligent warrior chief will first assess the enemy and it's location etc, before he makes the vital decision of whether or not to take the enemy on, but a fool will jump right in, without first studying his opponent and lose all his men on one day. The fool will fight for land which is not his to fight for, (and real life history fully backs that up).

In other words, it's completely foolish to waste your time fighting for something that is not yours or even there for the taking in the first place.

You only fight for what is reasonable to fight for, and that has to be first thought out carefully.

  3. Case study?  That's a Monty Python script.  Funny as h**l, but not exactly pertinent to reality.

Besides, the last time I linked to that scene here on GWS my answer was deleted for "solicitation".

  4. OK my agent sent me this script and the character of Francis has a fabulous arc of personality and character.

I'd like to accept the part but you must speak to my publicity manager and agent because I need to retain rights of choice of director, lighting designer, make-up artist, co-stars.

When do rehearsals start and I would like to co-produce so can you forward me the contract(s) asap because I am holding off other movie offers.

I'd like to thank you for your email and I look forward to working with you.

    Sincerely

    Nicole Kidman
