Historically, the person chosen to run as a VP nominee should be a Senator, as the essential role of the Vice President is to head up Congress.

my question is, have you personally ever been the mayor, Governor, senator, or other political person of any place? being the president of "ur-a**s" does not count. and my point is, that she is smarter that you!

Historically, having 2 Senators run for the White House is rare.  Over the last 30 years, Governors have won the Presidency with their Senatorial running mates.  Why is it so odd to now have a Governor as a running mate?  Pairing the 2 puts both Executive and Washington experience on the same ticket.  That's why it works.

Edit: That's quite a reach. I guess she could get her pointers about heading up Congress from McCain... since he's a Congressman and HISTORICALLY, most Presidents have experience outside of Congress. So, the positions are simply reversed.

There's no "historical" reason for chosing a Senator as VP.  Choosing Palin makes sense; she does have executive experience and she shores up McCain's base.
