My friend just sent me this email. I thought I'd help her out by polling the community:

"Hi Guys,

Listen, I'm doing a paper for my political science class and I need to take a poll ....If you guys could just answer yes or no to the following question, I'd really appreciate it..... It'll help me get a good grade!! Thanks!

Should we be willing to give up some of our basic civil liberties in order to protect ourselves and our country from the threat of terrorism?"

  1. Not to give up civil liberties to protect ourselves is too give liberties to terrorists

  2. NO!!!!

  3. You will have to follow your own heart on this one. Many say yes, and many say no. I could argue both sides, in the end when dead, will it make a difference if a telephone call was monitored? Yet where will it end? Our rights end where others start, so do we really have any rights at all? What a mess Bush made of things, there is a better way to deal with terrorism.

  4. I stand with Benjamin Franklin on this.  We survived the Brits burning Washington DC, a civil war, and fighting the n***s and Japanese Empire.  We will survive some crazed jihadi schmucks without surrendering our liberties.

  5. No. If we don't value our freedom we will lose it. :-)

  6. Yes, in my opinion.  But it also would depend on which liberties they're talking about.  Our country was founded by the bravery of the minutemen, and in the future, the minutemen of the public may be called upon to defend our country again.

  7. No we should not.  If you check into this you can protect us without infringing on our civil liberties.  The ACLU would never want you to hear about that though

  8. No. Give up any and you will lose all in time. The security you think you'd gain is only an illusion. Bad bargain all around.

  9. Never!

Our Civil Liberties are the protection of ourselves and our country!

  10. No

I think Benjamin Franklin said it best...

“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”

  11. No there are ways to provide safety without losing liberties. For example, secure the border so criminals and terrorists can't simply walk in.

  12. No, not as a population.

There is a place for this compromise of civil liberties for the protection of our society, It is called the Military.

  13. You need to be more specific.

What liberties are you referring to?

More specifically, what liberties do you think you've lost?

  14. No - Never!

Once we start down that road, we abandon the constitution and become a facist state.

    Freedom is all or nothing.

If you give one thing up - you give it ALL up.
