I have seen a lot in the news recently about global warming, and scientists are saying that you should do this that the other to cut your emissions. but my GCSE geography teacher says that the earth goes through heationg periods anyway, that is why we have ice ages.

I am confused

  1. The Earth does go through natural cycles and the climate change for the near future is stll not fully understood.

Don't "worry" about it, but do try to learn more about it since it is an important issue.

Dependence on oil is a bad thing anyway, because fossil fuels are not renewable resources, so cutting your use of gasoline is a good idea regardless.

  2. Ok for you to be confused, so are the scientist.  They told us in the 90's that the warming will continue for another 40 years because of all the CFC's we pumped into atmosphere.only 17 years have passed. So did they lie then or are they lying now, I think they talk what comes out of my anal passage.

  3. Don't worry about it.  It's more important now that you get good grades, graduate, and get a good career.  Don't be distracted by things like this which don't matter.

  4. The earth does go through natural warming and cooling. Currently, we are in hte middle of a 120,000 warming cycle. We are very fortunate to be living now as the climate is milder now than during the glacial times. As for man made warming, no evidence exists to support this theory.

I am glad to hear not all teachers are pushing the man made global warming theory. So many of the kids asking questions on this site are being pushed by teachers to only believe we are the problem,.

  5. I think you should be more concerned with getting hit by lighting .

  6. We are technically still in an Ice Age, just a brief interglacial period. The warming that everyone is concerned about is temporary, the glaciers will return one day, and there is nothing we can do about it, the Earth doesn't belong to us, we belong to the Earth.

"It was conventional wisdom that "the typical interglacial period lasts about 12,000 years,"

  7. Yes be very worried. It is likely that it is already too late to save the earth but the Government keep it quiet so that we don't all panic and cause riots. Your grandchildren will probably see the end of the world.

  8. Good for your geography teacher.  Many geographers, almost all solar physicists and other related genres of science know it's a lie.

On the other hand...those lefty environmenalists...they're a different breed.

  9. Of coarse!! Global Warming is harming out world now and it's all because some people aren't trying to take action and help save Earth. No offense to anyone who is taking an offense.

  10. You dont need to be.. Just do what you have to do to benifet your world.

  11. Your geography teacher is right. The recent scare about global warming is a huge propaganda campaign. If you just trust your own logic, you should be able to deduce that there are much larger forces on this earth than man. Also, when they say that the average temperature has gone up by 0.5 degree celsius or something like that in a century, think how much that really is- an incredibly insignificant amount to us, and especially compared to the temperatures during the ice ages. I'm glad you are questioning this and open to both points of view. Here's a good site.

  12. Global Warming is a myth a falsh religon. Its a state run religon. It has its saviors Al Gore and and Hollywood , its satans any person who doestn believe in it, its scriptures all the books made by Al Gore and other members of their cult.. Dont buy into the cult of global warming. They want to control you and industry. Destroy everything thats good about American and create a government controled state where everyone obey like good little citizens.

  13. Yes and No.

Your teacher is right with regards to the heating periods, the earth has time periods of extreme cold and then heating up. We are half way inbetween the heating up period so the increase of tempretures is normal...BUT with the emmisions and the increase of green house gases, we are speeding up the heating period.

  14. Global Warming is an opinion.  To date there have been no repeatable scientific facts proven to suggest that we have caused a rise in temp.  All the info is speculation and educated guesses based on figures that are estimated at best.  There's talk now that comets and asteroids are the culprit.  In the past El Nino (spelling?) was a culprit, before that it was oil drilling in alaska, before that...shrug...who knows.  We are the cause of all ill-effects, everything is Bush's fault, Obama will fix everything, Hillary should have, and the best part...evrything will change when some freak decides that the problems are due to our flatulance resulting from beans planted in contaminated dirt caused from all the healthy foods we ate as kids...and oh yeah, because the sky is blue.

  15. Even though I don't believe in global warming, the scare tactic is actually really good for the direction our society needs to go in.  Our power lines are overloaded for what they were build for, and many other problems.

In the end, if we all pitch in and get solar panels and wind turbines it will be cheaper for everyone to get that technology, and we wont have as many bills.  So everyone saves money.  Then we wont have to worry about our failing power system we currently have in place.

If our country gets to the point of using this technology, then it can benefit our space program some, and we will be at the top of something worth trading with other countries, when right now we are not really at the top of anything like we used to be.

That and with oil prices, research into solar, wind, and hydrogen power is important to save everyone money in regards to transportation.  So while I dont believe in global warming, and pretty much everyone who has spoke here is absolutely right.  I will go ahead and act like it is real to try to get other people to start doing the right things in their lives to save them money in the end.

Our society is filled with idiots, people who support ethanol prove this since it is still using a lot of gasoline.  Meaning that with gas prices going up how they are suppose to to $6 a gallon in 2 years, ethonal will end up costing around $4 a gallon.  That isn't a guess, that is fact.  Yes, it will be cheaper, but we need to pull out of gas and oil as much as possible at those prices.

So that might be part of why some scientist are supporting that global warming is real and is a huge problem when they definitely know it isn't as big of a problem as they act.
