Should we bring in the little dove?

My husband called me today and said a baby dove was sitting on the ground. We thought about bringing it in a couple days since there are a lot of cats around here. When he went to catch it, it ran, but then flew up into the tree. It's sitting there on a low branch, alone. Should we try to help it somehow or leave it there?

It depends. Look around, do you see any mom or dad doves around? If not you can get it too feel its tummy. If its skinny than they have died. Get a cage for it. Ones for cockatiels. They love the perches. You need to go to the petstore and get Exact Handfeeding Formula for ALL birds. Get the lil blue cup that came with it and fill it up and put in bowel and than fill it up with warm water. Mix it together well. Than get a syringe to feed it to him. Try to see if it pecks at the food by putting a lil on your finger, if it does than he can start to eat on his own. Place it in the bottom of the cage and see if he will eat it if not than use syringe. After he stops calling than put it in the fridgrator covered so it wont dry up or spoil. When you are going to feed him again which is every 2-4 hrs than heat it up and make sure its not hot or cold but warm, mix well to get it all combined and get the heat all over it so there is no hot spots.

The cage needs to be by a window, they feel more relaxed. Get the bird feeders that hand and place them on the lowest part you can. Fill oone with water. The other with mealworms, CUT THERE HEADS OFF, OR THEY WILL EAT THE BIRD INSIDES. They love them. Also put some cut up bannana peices, berry peices, and watermelon peices. Mine loves those. Make sure thay are finly cut into tiny, tiny peices. Place it int the other hanging feeder. Get some Millet Sparay, this is seeds that they love, all wild birds love them.. Also get some wild bird seed and spread it on the bottom of the cage, this teaches them to foridge.

SOme bird like toys, I got my wild bird some rings that are toys for birds and he pecks at them and stuff. Get a mirror, mine sits in frount of it, its funny to watch.

I have a BlueJay that I have had for over a month, he is wonderful. His name is Balou.

You can keep an eye on it to make sure nothing gets it.  I would take it in though if I were you.  It could be in need of serious medical attention.  You should call a vet and follow their instructions.  That's really the only thing you can do.
