Question:

Should we bring in this dove?

My husband called me today and said a baby dove was sitting on the ground. We thought about bringing it in a couple days since there are a lot of cats around here. When he went to catch it, it ran, but then flew up into the tree. It's sitting there on a low branch, alone. Should we try to help it somehow or leave it there?

  1. i would take it in, i have a pet diamond dove and she is a sweetheart, they can tame easily too    goodluck!

  2. if it can fly up to a branch in a tree what are you going to do but take it in and kill it. Believe it or not but the parents, especially the father is feeding them. They leave the nest about a week before they can fly. I have a pair of doves that I have been watching for about ten years. I don't know that they are the same doves but they nest in the very same spot. They have raised four clutches of two babies so far this season. I bet they lay again.  Every time they hatch out babies the babies  end up sitting  on my deck railing for the few days that they just fledging. They can fly but only fly from the ground up into a tree or somewhere just to get out of reach. They will be fine. If you step in they will likely die. I have tried many times. I have raised all types of birds all through my life and raised many babies by necessity and to raise and sell for hand fed pets.
