  1. Yes.they should stay. They are still good value for money.

  2. I don't get the question; are they not already kept scroungers?

  3. There is no reason to keep the royal family. This is the 21st Century, for chrissake.

  4. I agree with crazydoglady, why should we keep them,so the tourists can ogle at there expensive palaces.

  5. Yes - the Royal family is a bargain for England.

You get power and prestige that you wouldn't otherwise have through the Commonwealth - without the Queen, you'd be Spain.

Tourist dollars - massive return on your investment.

And then there's the entire network of "most favoured nation" duty setups that you're entitled to thru the former Crown colonies.

  6. Yes and the reason why is made simple when I explain that so long as the Queen and her successors remain head of state of UK, then no despot can rule over us.

    GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

  7. No. They should be abolished and prosecuted for crimes against the people.

  8. Could you ever see this country becoming a republic? No

The royal family do so much for the country but people don't see it because its not in OK and Hello ever week, but whenever they make public appearances it makes people very happy to see them

  9. To be honest, this sort of question could be applied to your grandmother - she sits at home, doesn't do anything of merit, lives off the state and has been around forever. She's also had a good run but you'd never get rid of her. This is the same for the royals, but they do a huge amount of work. Last year, the Queen attended over 400 official engagements even though she's meant to have stood down from a lot of her work. A President would cost us a lot more in wealth and national identity. Keep them for a long time to come!

  10. this is a no brainer, so for all the no brainers that say get rid,

look on the civil list,   58p = £35.3 million from us the queen then surrenders all income from the crown estate, this includes shop & office rents from regent st,london, labours millbank tower hq &300,000 acres of farm land a total off £147.7 million more than 4 times the civil list, then  you have tourism on top,

now you tell me who gets the better deal,

  11. no I think we still want and need the royal family ............

look at the countries that don't have anything like us they are envious spain reinstated their royal family if we lost the royal family what would happen to the tourist trade   we don't have the great weather .....we don't gert huge snow fall  the northern lights .................

and as long as people are still asking and replies come from both sides we will retain them  I don't want to be solely lead by some man like george bush .........or gordon brown  or any other politician

  12. The english would say yes, but the welsh scottish & irish people would probably say no.

I don't class the Royal Family as anything special, no offence by they are over rated.

    Good Luck. X :-)

  13. The Americans got rid of the monarchy hundreds of years ago and look what has happened.  Some guy in running ithe place because he happened to pop out of the right v****a.  He is also related to the British royal family.

  14. Yes, I think we should.  We would be no better off with an elected president, he wouldn't be any cheaper than the monarchy, and possibly more expensive (the italians for instance pay almost twice as much for their president as we do for the monarchy).  Besides, if we had an elected head of state, that would mean yet more tedious elections.

Anyway, why are you so anxious to swop the Queen for an elected nonentity?  Do you really think life will be better with some undistinguished and totally forgetable president installed in Buckingham Palace?  Why?

And in answer to the outrageous comment posted above, the royal family most certainly did NOT support the n***s during WW2.

  15. Every country needs and has a non political head of state.

Other countries don't pay much less for their heads of state and no tourists go to see (for instance) the German president, so my answer is no.

Once you get rid of them you can't reinstate a tradition like that.

Finally, although everyone says how much the Royal Family costs to keep, do you honestly think the government would lower taxes if they were abolished ?

So what's the point of getting rid of them ? You don't save a penny and you lose a piece of tradition that no other country in the world can match.

  16. They're pretty expensive pets!

  17. I totally disagree with you with out a doubt we should and will kep the Royal Family

  18. Yes, they only cost us 66p  a year

  19. " Yeh they just need better advisers "

  20. well this is a no brain-er YES THEY SHALL STAY 4EVER AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMERICAN HERE

  21. The truth is I am neither pro or against the Royal family. I really don't care if we have one, so in my current apathy I cannot argue with anybody wanting to abolish the monarchy.

  22. i think that they should cut out their expenses from our taxes.

i dunno.. they're fun to take the p**s out of.. and they haven't done anything horrendous in recent years..

except they supported the n***s in WW2

they're not doing much harm.. and they have no say in how the country is run (officially)

I think it's the Labour party you need to be worried about..

  23. The royal family would never go unless somthing so uber big uber crazy mad happened.

They are here to stay and wont go.  Respected around the world.  Queen to not only 1 country but others and well you will have to get past the military before you can get rid of them xD.

Meh i doubt welsh etc want rid.  not any ive known anyway.

  24. yes I think we should.
