We currently have a 86 toyota pick up, a 99 mercury villager and a 95 honda civic. We are considering trading in all three on a 2006 full size 4 door silverado pick up. my husband has his own work truck. what do you think?

  1. I think that in this world of 4 dollar gas, it is not advantageous to buy a full size truck, I might suggest a large SUV. Large SUV's still have lots of room, like a pickup, but are better for the environment and are more fun to drive. Some good large SUVs that get good gas mileage and are comfortable all-round vehicles are the 2009 Honda Pilot, the Acura MDX, and the Toyota Highlander. Sorry they are all Japanese, but they are all excellent cars: we have been very happy with our MDX.

You could also buy 2 cars both used, that way you have a small pickup like the Toyota Tacoma, and another sedan for in-town driving, like the Acura TL or Honda Accord or Chevrolet Malibu (Domestic!).

    Good luck!

  2. Think about whether you want to drive a truck everywhere; there is a huge difference between driving a honda civic and a silverado.  Civics are much lower to the ground and operate on a smoother suspension, while silverados are built around a truck suspension, which is much higher and much bumpier.  If this does not bother you, a silverado can be a great choice as it has plenty of room.
