Should we buy a multi family or a single family home?

I'd love to buy our own single family home but my husband is thinking more of a multi family for investment. what do you think??

I would go for a single home..you live there every day.. investments are good but you need to get what you like

Do you want to be a landlord?  Do you know what that entails?  It's a lot more than collecting rent on the first of the month.  It's plumbing problems at 2am, and fighting between tenants because one's music is too loud and the other forgets to lock the front door.  It's replacing the stove in unit B, and the hot water heater for unit A in the same month you need a new roof.  You need to have a slush fund set aside for these expenses that's much bigger than you need for a single family residence.

My choice would be SFR, just because I don't want to deal with tenants.  I have a condo I rent out, and it's been nothing but trouble.  Currently my son and his wife live there, and as soon as they get on their feet financially, I'm selling the place.  At least they're maintaining the place.  The previous tenant trashed the place.
