  1. Check them at the port and go have lunch on the Lido deck. dependingwhat time you get on the ship you wont be able to get into your room until 1p (approx). I try to bring as little as possible so I dont have to drag it with me. You always see the people who didnt want to tip the porter a couple bucks and then spend the next 2 hours having to babysit thier luggage rather than explore the ship. In the 7 I have been on, never have I had anything missing, including the alcohol I smuggled on board

  2. Definatly check it. Its the cruise line who deals with it and plus getting luggage through the tight halways with everyone else buzzing around is a nightmare. Most likely you will have to take stairs from the port to the ship and with luggage...it will be tough.

  3. You will not have an option unless you use several small carry-on type bags that will fit through the scanner that the cruise lines use X-ray bags.  ALL luggage MUST go through an x-ray.  And so if it will not fit through the carry-on scanner like the ones that the airports use, it goes to the porters who put it through a big x-ray machine.

  4. You only bring on board your carry on bag, that is it. Once your bags are at the port terminal, they are gathered up and taken to the loading area and then into the loading area of the ship. Your bags will arrive at your cabin sometime later in the evening. On a cruise ship that has 3,000 people and each person has about 2 bags each, you can imagine what a job this is, but they get it done in a timely manner. Don't worry about theft either. Your luggage is put in a restricted area.

  5. Take it yourself. You don't want anyone stealing anything.

  6. YOU MUST CHECK IN YOUR BAGS THEY WILL NOT LET YOU TAKE ANYTHING OTHER THAN CARRY ON LUGGAGE AND  IN REGARDS TO TO HAVING THNIGS STOLEN AFTER ABOUT 15 CRUISES I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING STOLEN

  7. yourselves. if you don't you could risk theft.

  8. Pick out what you want to wear the 1st afternoon and any essential items you might need and check the rest. Most cruise lines will not let you carry on big luggage items. Plus, you often have to stand in check-in lines for an hour.

  9. You will check your bags with a porter before boarding the ship.  Depending on the cruise line, you will be able to bring a small, personal-items bag to your room with you, but probably not your luggage.  Don't forget, this is post 911, and your bags will go through at least two check points before boarding.

Besides, you will look like a rube if you haul your own bags to your room (ships are very confusing, so expect to get lost for at least an hour looking for your room).  Handling your own bags simply is not done, and actually makes you more of a target for thieves and ne'er-do-wells, as they assume you have never been on a cruise ship before and are ignorant about the way of things.

  10. You must check your bags.  We left from NY, and were driven there (no connecting flights).  They require you check them, and then the bags will be placed (within) a few hours infront of your door.  When you first are allowed in the ship, there are so many people in small confined areas of the hallways that the luggage would never fit too.
