Question:

Should we even have borders at all?

I know those who feel we should remove the illegal aliens and those who dislike any amnesty will answer this "of course".

What I'm really interested in are the opinions of those who feel we should allow an amnesty or those who feel we should just allow anyone to come here based on "their" needs not our countries needs.

One of the main reasons for a border is to control the flow of people and goods. For the security and common good of those people within the borders - it has nothing to do with people outside of that border.

If you feel we should have a border yet still allow anyone to come here what would be the point? Why have a border at all if we give amnesty to anyone?

If you feel we should not have any borders and just allow a free flow of anything/anyone, how could we possible secure this country against terrorists? How could we have any standard of living? How can we prevent communicatible disease? How can we have any government programs like schools, social security, welfare, foodstamps, police, fire, etc. since the population increase would cause these programs to fold within weeks?

Thoughts?

  1. Well i don't think god intended for people to not be able to travel where they like , i believe everyone has the right to visit any country on earth we as humans have that god given right

  2. I myself feel we should not have Borders. What have these things done for us that was good through the Eyes of GOD? Borders only Invades into One's Personal Life. What have Deportings done that was good in the Eyes of GOD? Again nothing. The more we hear about Deports the more we hear about Job Loss, The more we hear about Food Prices going up. And People need to open their Eyes and see that everything they are Nagging about is done by Nature. No one will be here on Earth Today if it wasn't for Deporting. Americans do the same to get to other Countries but we never hear Americans Nag about that. Setting Borders never did and never will stop Terrorist. Putting a Limit on whom can and can't enter this Country never did and never will stop them as we sit and watched that happen on 9/11. So America have not proved not once a good reason why the Immigrants can't be a part of this Country. Because everything this Country has Proved when it came to them happens by Nature it self therefore there's not one good reason why these Human Beings can not be here just like anyone else. Author, Eddie Smith.

  3. Have you ever lived in New York City? Do you know what is across 110th Street? Have you experienced the difference between Bed/Sty and lower Manhattan; Queens or the Bronx? Have you heard of the expression, "wrong side of the tracks"? Borders are natural; they will ebb and flow but they'll never leave.

  4. I believe you have answered your own question when you say a border is to provide for the security and common good of the citizens.

No border means unrestricted access to anyone who wishes to damage the country, steal from it's citizens, etc.  That clearly damages both security and the common good.  Allowing unrestricted access to anyone who can undermine the salary structure of anyone in any way (and there would be a sea of them) is also not conducive to the common good.

A border should only exist to control the movement of people, not the movement of goods.  But, in practice, once you have one the government will use it for all kinds of political purposes e.g. tariffs to protect their supporters, etc.

Unfortunately, If you are successful, you attract a lot of attention from many who would like to share with you (what you have built up)  but are not, for various reasons, ready to contribute to the common good.  But, it they can produce something you can't, or do it more cheaply in their own country, a border should not restrict access to their goods, which can be bought (or not) by the importing population.  In that way you are importing success and not failure.

  5. Yes we should.

  6. yes so no more ******* foreigners come over here.

  7. You've answered your own question with several scenerios....  all in all it leads to the answer, we need secure borders for many reasons.

  8. Hi,

As a person who's often called a pro illegal because of my stand on the issue I'll hopefully clarify a few points and I'm speaking only for myself.

Of course we need borders and laws, to not have them is suicide of our nation. We do have millions here already illegally that our government is doing lackluster crackdowns on that don't amount to squat. Take for example the Voluntary Leave or whatever it's called. I don't see mass media coverage of it so I'm assuming it's another flop and waste of tax dollars. They let this slide for so many years that now we're in a position of either providing them with legal documents or showing our failure to the world we have breachable borders. Personally I'd rather they legalize those here without records, do massive fining of employers who hire anyone after the reform and once and for all DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE concerning all types illegal breaches of our security. That means the overstays, smuggled, fraudulant whatever. But crack down this time so we aren't in this shape again and again. > whew <

  9. Yes! we should have borders.

  10. There are legal ways of doing things and they need to shore up the borders even more in my opinion.  The don't call them "ILLEGAL" immigrants for nothing.  They broke the law and need to pay the price.
