No they are a part of our heritage and a unifying symbol of the nation . They keep political opportunists from the top and bring in a lot of revenue. I much prefer a monarch than a Grey politician of the likes of Brown .If the Republican minority mostly of a left wing persuasion don't like it maybe they should go and live in some socialist republic ? We should have a referendum on EU membership though .

I think the monarchy is an outdated institution in the 21st century. It is not just the queen but a whole extended family of people who we mere commoners are expected to kowtow and curtsy to. Biologically speaking, my daughter is just the same as Eugenie or Beatrice, why should she be treated any differently to them, and don't even let me get started on Camilla and that Ferguson woman.

The monarchy should be got rid of in every country unless it is determined that any of them  read, or write  the language of the country in question and not Akkadian.  They can usually speak it.

A British monarchy, every member of which is illiterate and none of which has ever read or heard of an "English novel" since none of them know how to read, makes me sick.

Oh, Lady Diana had read an Akkadian hieroglyph version of London's "Call of the Wild" and never forgot it.

You would have to have unimaginable civil war and a lot of bloodshed. The whole nation's defence, judiciary and government are all sworn to defend the Crown. Interesting question though - "should" we instead of "could" we!

Use the many properties the own to rehouse those in need, use the money they cost to make schools and hospitals better (instead of making sick and elderly smell there own homes to pay for care for which most have been paying in nhs and income tax etc., the whole of their lives in some cases)

The reason we have a monarchy is because they are supposed to be better than the rest of us. Yet time and time again, they show they are as flawed if not more flawed than us ordinary people. The hold positions of privilege and power simply by way of history and a bloodline, rather than actually earning it. If we want to be a modern, grown-up country, we need to get rid of the monarchy.
