My bf & I have purchased my parents home with mortage and all. My parents are now renting my home, helping our repayments until my bf & I get married then they move out and we'll have the place to ourselves. Should we still have a housewarming party to celebrate our home ownership? or is that too tacky..coz we aint moving in together yet?

  1. Yes, that would be tacky. Wait until you move in. What they are doing is really nice of them. Why embarrass them by having that party before they even move out?

  2. I think it will feel more of a "house warming" when the two of you move in.

  3. Hi jazhome, I say...WHY NOT! What better of a way, to get both sides of the family/friends together? Make it totally informal ie; potluck, BYOB etc...This way, you'll both recieve some nice gifts (you could even make suggestions) like plants, gift-cards etc...nothing too pricey. Plus, it will allow those that may or may not live close by, to see your new digs. I'm in the catering industry, and have seen it all. LOL! I don't see anything wrong with it...in fact, I like "pushing the envelope", "thinking outside the box"! Congratulations! OXXO Moonchild  P.S. Besides, some folks may be able to attend this function and not the "real-deal or the nuptials"?

  4. Tacky.

  5. I dont know what the proper procedure is but it would seem that you need to occupy the home to have a house warming party otherwise it just seems to people that you are wanting gifts for a house that you dont even live in yet. Wait till you actually occupy the home to have a party. If you are anticipating getting married then you will be having showers and a wedding and such requireing gifts be bought for you so I would wait on the housewarming. The only thing I might suggest is if you and your parents want to celebrate the transfer of ownership celebrate together  but thats about all.

  6. it's better to wait until you're married and your parents have a new home.  you never know - they may have to repossess the place and how embarrassing will that be?
