Should we have taken in the stray cat?

So I was hanging out with my GF and her family and a cat jumped on the windowsill and was meowing. Her dad shut the window... went to the patio door , and it followed him. He shut the curtains and told her that no, we could not take in this cat. So they went to bed. 4 hours later, I finally decided to drive home... we leave, and the cat is still there, curled up into a ball, waiting for us. my GF gets emotional because the cat is skin and bones, so we give it a small amount of food. Then, as I left, she told me the cat cuddled with her outside for 15 mins.

It's her father's house, and he said no taking in of the cat... they already have a dog and another cat, so she didn't take it in like he said, but she told me she felt that she should have.

if the cat is there tomorrow morning...should she keep it?

your thoughts? =]

  1. first make sure that cat has nothing wrong with it try to feed it a lil more food then take it to a NO kill shelter they will help it find a home

  2. yes just get it checked out by a vet

  3. YES!!! PLEASE YES!!! i am a huge animal lover and i would be like your girlfriend and VERY emotionally but probably would have snuck it into my house lol I don't understand how her dad could not care, i just don't get people like that. when i look at them i see a life and they are so innocent and give unconditional love. people beat there animals and they still come crawling back because they have so much love and it;s so sad :(

  4. Maybe she can bond with it and keep it as an outdoor cat.

  5. If you have room then yes. Apperently its friendly so it had an owner before that. Take him/her to your home and see if he/she likes it. Cats are easy going, they hang around. Just put out a bowl of water and food and a little box and there fine.

  6. If there is a problem with keeping the cat, take her to a no kill rescue facility. She sounds like she is hungry and needs help. Hope you find the right answer.

  7. Does your city/town have an ASPCA or any kind of animal rescue organization?  If so, your GF could take the kitty there where he will get medical care, and they will attempt to find a home for him.  These kind of places are usually no-kill shelters, so your GF won't have to worry that they'll put him to sleep.

  8. Of course, the cat just wants to be loved. Feed it and gets its  health back. Then you can take it to a shelter for free, or try posting an ad on craigslist. People are ALWAYS looking for kittys

  9. If they can't keep the cat, it is probably because they can't afford another cat.

If the cat is that sad, I don't think it would be fair to make it an outdoor cat.  The other alternative would be to take it to the local shelter. The other thing to do is to take it to the local shelter.  If the cat is that cuddly, it has a good chance of being adopted once the shelter staff feeds it.  Make sure the staff contacts you all if they cannot find a home and may have to euthanize the cat.  Then you can pick it up and try to find an alternative location for it.

There is also the option of you taking the cat back to your own home.  Why can't you take in the stray?
