Should we hire a band for my b-day?

30th bday party in backyard. low key with appetizers and cocktails. kids in attendance (playing in backyard playground). we were just going to have an ipod playlist, but some have suggested blues or jazz band. it would just be background music... should we do it?

I vote for the ipod.  I mean if it rains, you will definitely have room for it in the living room!

It's your 30th Birthday, don't feel inclined to impress others. If you are happy with an ipod then do it. If you feel like you need more entertainment, look into borrowing a karayoke machine from a friend or renting one. Have bags, horseshoes, volleyball, etc. But who would really even suggest you getting a band? That seems a little over the top.

Naa only if its a band that every1 knows who it is. Cause it would like dumb if no one has ever heard of them. Maybe you should just keep it with the ipod thing! Happy 30th thingy!

If you hire a band it will be hard to keep the party low keyed...  save your money and play your ipod.....  Nice to have the kids around too...

live music is always cool! even if you don't know them or the song its nice and different! can be expensive though! depends also what type of atmosphere you want to create during your party (if kids are being crazy running around and being loud might distract from the light airy music of jazz or blues) and also if your group likes blues or jazz- I personally don't.

Sure if you can afford it but a good DJ or your ipod idea would give you a break in expenses. Happy 30Th by the way, enjoy your party!!!
