Question:

Should we honeymoon in Hawaii?

My fiancee and I are planning to go on a honeymoon in late June. We figure for about the same price as a week or so in Hawaii (option 1) we could take an Alaskan cruise, stay in Vancouver a couple of days, and even go to a cheaper all inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta for 4 days (option 2). Option 3 is a cruise to the Bahamas or Galapagos Islands. Option 4 is Australia, but I'm concerned about late June being a bad time of year. I'm probably more adventurous than her as she is a bit cautious, but I think we both would like a good mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. I'm partial to option 2 as I've traveled a lot, & done the Volcano thing (Costa Rica), but she hasn't traveled anywhere hardly at all. If we choose the Hawaii option, what is the best way to see Hawaii? Any suggestions for Hawaii, the other options, or something else. Europe's out as I've been there 3 times myself recently and it's expensive. Time should not be a problem, as we are taking 3 - 4 weeks off.

  1. Getting married is very special, and Hawaii is very special, so I vote for Hawaii.  It will have a nice balance for you both.  For example, Maui has incredible places to see and things to do, both touristy for her and not-so-touristy for you.  There is a wide range of accomodation depending on your budget too.  You should check it out.  Have a great time, whatever you decide.

Edit:  Hawaii temps are pretty constant, it's mostly rainy vs dry season you should look into.  But june should be nice

  2. I vote for Hawaii or the Galapagos Islands.

Hawaii would be great in late June. Not too hot!

I'm not sure what an Alaskan cruise would be like in June. Granted, since the Ice caps are melting fast, this might be your only opportunity to see them.

Avoid the cruise or the Caribbean. Culture is pretty hard to experience in all inclusive type places.

If you go to Hawaii, the best way to see it is to bounce around a little.

Spend 3-4 days in Waikiki and rent a car and drive around the island....no need to stay in just one spot.Just don't camp...camping is weird in Hawaii, very unsafe. We were wildly surprised by this. Plus they have a bizarre wild chicken problem!

Then, go to Maui for 3 to 5 days. The rainforest trip should is better on with a tour group, but doing everything else is better by car. I'd stay in a villa or condo though. There's more independance and a lot more affordable. Plus there are some great places to stay. Kihei is cheap, but, the beaches aren't great.  Lahaina would be a great central place to stay! Explore the beaches and restaurants. What great about Maui is that the landscape differs so dramaticaly depending on the side of the island you're on.

Go to the Big Island for a few days..and perhaps pick another island!

    Have fun!

  3. I've had several couples come to me about going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. I always ask them first off is that their ONLY choice. Which I'm glad that you guys are considering other options. I saw one of the options is Mexico. All-Inclusive is normally the best way to go. Since Hawaii doesn't have any all-inclusive there is no way to do that over there. When you are on your honeymoon you don't want to have to worry about spending that extra money on food and drink. You want to enjoy each others time. Down in Mexico there is a chain called Palace Resorts, they have several different resorts down there that you could look into, but I would recommend two different ones: Right in the heart of Cancun: Beach Palace-They JUST reopened this resort, they did a complete renovation..and when I say that they tore it down and built it back from the ground up. Your right in the middle of everything, and can access everything around town as well. Plus your right on the beach, can't really ask for more. If you want to be slighty out of Cancun..say about 45 minutes..go to the Aventura Spa Palace. It's adults only, and it's down in Rivera Maya. You can go visit the ruins, stay at the resort to lounge around all day, or take a shutte/taxi from the resort to Cancun. Another added bonus of staying at the palace resort is that you can take the free shuttle to the other palace resorts to visit them for the day and everythings you do at that palace resort is also included. Just make sure you head back to your hotel by the time the last shuttle is going! I hope this helps since your thinking about Mexico! Have a great honeymoon and wedding!!

  4. The north of Australia is hot all year round and Winter is the best time to go there because it is hot and dry (Summer in the tropics is hot and wet season).  Sydney has very mild Winters - good for sightseeing.  You could then fly upto Cairns or Port Douglas for a few days and then have a few days out sailing the Great Barrier Reef.  If you are feeling adventurous you could go check out Alice Springs and Darwin and do an adventure tour across the Kimberleys to Broome (must do a helicopter ride over the Bungle Bungles).  Broome and Port Douglas both have great beaches.  They make the beaches in Hawaii look like c**p (seriously) and they are not overcrowded and overdeveloped either.  Another option if you want the tropical island thing only is Fiji or Cook Islands - both nicer than the Bahamas or Hawaii.  Try googling Fiji sailing if you want to do some island hopping as well as stay in a resort.

  5. Well i just returned from  Australia and man i love it!! Wonderful place that i might live there for ever honestly!!  But in this case your going in June and yes your right is winter. So Hawaii is a place where you can go when ever you want, my girlfriend wants to go there too, but we decided another place that's Bora-Bora!!

Option B cause everything is different ( Language, Food, People, Music etc... i would defiantly go there!!

  6. Definately HI it is the best checkout tis website http://www.hawaii-vacation-hotels.us to get a feel about what to do and see while you are there.

  7. In June, places like Hawaii, Mexico or the Bahamas would be pretty hot.  An Alaskan cruise or Vancouver would be nice because it would be a milder temperature.  Also, Hawaii is very expensive, in terms of lodging, food and pretty much everything else.  Puerto Vallarta would be pretty reasonable price-wise as well as certain areas in the Bahamas.

  8. So I talked to my fiance who was stationed there for 5 years. According to him, Hawaii is beautiful to go to year-round. As for things to do, he  said the one thing you HAVE to do is a lua (sp?) where they do the dancing and the pig roast.

For seeing Hawaii I know that they have helicopter rides over the Big Island.

If you want adventure, culture, and relaxation Hawaii has it!
