Question:

Should we increase dog permit fee?

A dog is no different to a person, yet we allow anybody, to own one.

This is so wrong.

The same measures that go into child adoption should apply.

This is how one can best protect our poor animals, however it seems we dont care much at all, as anybody fool may own a dog.

  1. No, but we should have a heafty trolling fee.

  2. One not every place has a dog permit fee, secondly do you know how many people DON'T register their animals with the state/city? TONS so increasing the fee won't stop anything.

What there should be is a license to own a dog just like driving you have to go study and then pass a comprehensive test.

  3. Raising the fee would not affect how the dog is treated once it is taken home. As you said, "Any fool can own a dog", these same people pay loads of money to buy a specific dog only to mistreat it, abuse it, then pass it on to someone else or put it in a shelter. So raising the permit fee for those places that have one won't help the dogs at all.

  4. Just as any fool can get an internet connection and start posting.  Being able to afford a dog is one thing; properly caring for it is another.  The two are not related.

  5. If the same measures that go into child adoption applied to animal adoption, far more pets would die than already do.  Seriously, how many people do you think would go through all that just to get a pet?  I appreciate your passion for protecting animals, but don't be so melodramatic.

  6. No, a dog is A LOT different then a person. I would rescue my children or a person, from a fire or danger before I would my dogs/cats. I love my pets dearly with all my heart, but I love my kids more, and people are more important than an animal. Obviously you have been done wrong by people in your life and turn to dogs/companion animals for comfort. A dog is a dog, a person is a person and like I'm sure most others feel are a bit more important than any pet.

If the same measures went into adopting an animal that went into adopting a child, there would be very few pets with homes, I guarantee you that.

I don't dispute that there are a lot of morons out there owning animals that shouldn't own them, but there is just not a lot that us "normal" folk can do about it, no matter how bad we feel for the animals. There are a lot of people out there you take good care of their animals but would not want to go through a similar process to adopt an animal that it takes to adopt a child!
