Should we keep the flourescent lights off while looking at our monitors?

We are an advertising agency and we work in a basement of our bosses house. He has these huge flourescent lights on in the basement. Should we turn these off and just use like table lamps? That seems to help our eyes and it makes it more homey, more of a creative environment. So basically I'm just needing some facts to keep these huge lights off, to give to my boss. If you all have any facts about keeping the flourscents off, then please share, thank you!! By the way we 3 are graphic/video/web designers.

If it helps to give a homey feel and make you more creative...why not?  Flourescent uses less energy, though.

Sure, that is something we actually do here at my work.  Some departments will turn off the Flourescent lights for a whole area and either use a desk lamp or none at all.  

Another option that some of our areas do is to keep the flourescent lights on, but actually remove the light tubes themselves.  For example if your area has 100 flourescent lights, maybe you can remove 50 of them.

Either option works, less eye strain and you'll be saving the company some $$$.

Yep. Maybe the fact that they are using so much electricity  would convince your boss
