We leave for a 6 day'er to Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada on Monday out of San Diego...on Carnival -anyone going??

Anyways, I am sure that the people down in Mexico are so used to the tourists that they may knw English... but should we learn some Spanish before we go? we have like 5 days to learn! I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.

If you know any quick sentences please let me know! And if you ARE going on the cruise let me know and we can hang out!

  1. it would be helpful to learn a few phrases, but i wouldn't bother cramming or anything.

here are a few helpful phrases though:

No hablo espanol (I don't speak Spanish)

    No se (I don't know)

    Me llamo...(My name is)

    have fun!

  2. Its always nice to have a few words, like please, thank you, hello, where are the bathrooms, etc.  I got a lonely planet audio guide for learning Czech that was pretty thorough - you can download it from iTunes for $8.95 and its in Spanish too!  Have fun!

  3. Before you go on your cruise, if you have time, stop into a Barnes and Nobles or any book store and pick a cheap book that has basic and common spanish phrases.

Other things you might want to be able to say or ask,

Cuanto es esto or Cuanto Cuesta- means how much as in how much something cost.

    Donde es- where is

Puede digame donde es el bano, por favor? - Can you tell me where the bathroom is please?

    Buscando- I am looking for

Mi amigo (amiga, if female)-my friend

El Camarero- the waiter (change the O to A for waitress)

    Una Mesa- a table

    Un asiento- a seat

Hope these are helpful, although you probably wont need to know that much on a cruise.  However, it is always nice to learn and speak other languages.  You never know when you'll need it again : )

  4. If you want to learn a bit go for it and I won't be going with you this time but enjoy.  Here's a few phrases:

Hola, como tu estas? = Hi, how are u?

    Buenos dias = Good Morning

    Buenas Noches = Good Evening

Estoy muy bien = I'm very well

    Adios = Goodbye

  5. theres really no point in it. just go and enjoy !i

  6. You absolutely don't need to.  All the tourist spots that cruise lines hit are filled with people who speak English.  Just remember to say "gracias" and you'll be fine.  (I took a cruise to Mexico in February, and more people spoke English there than they do in Houston! ha)
