Should we move and start over?

My family and I (husband and 2 kids) have moved quite a bit. We have lived in 4 different States. One of the reasons why we have moved is because of health reasons. Me having health issues, my two kids born with abnormalitiess.

This is the first whole year that we have been on welfare and it has been really hard. My little boy was born with a cleft lip palate and will have surgery in September. That is one of the reasons why I have not been able to go back to work.

We are thinking that before the operation we would like to sell everything that we have in order to make ends meet and save a little money to move to the midwest.

My husband's uncle is currently up there and has told us that they need people to work up there. Starting pay is $13 per hour, Rent is very cheap compare to here (South, Florida) and since they have two shifts, my husband can work on one and I can work on the other. It is a meat packing plant. I have done this work before for 7 yrs so I know what I am doing. As for health care for the kids, the company offers full benefits, and a major City is only an hour away.

What made it worse today is that my husbands hour got shorten insted of working the 40 hours they cut him down to 32 hours and it will hurt us severly. He was also told that they will be letting people go. For me personally I would like to get off welfare, and live the life that we once lived. our kids are small ( one is 1 yr, the other is 3 yrs.). But even at this age it hurst me when they need something and I cant afford it.

We have lived in the Midwest before and I personally love it. When I got sick we moved to California to be close to my family. There in November things took a turn for the worse and there were hardly any jobs. So we decided to moved to Florida hoping that it would be better, it was a little better but just reccently things have been getting rough. Many companise are closing, there are very few jobs openings and many people un employed. The other reason why we moved here is because of the healtcare the Surgeon the operated my first son is here and he will be operating my second son. The Surgeon is the best, I feel very happy and confident in what he will do with my son.

After the operation and we are cleared is when we would moved.

Do you think that we are doing the correct thing, or should we stay where we are at and continue to fight hoping that things will get better? Please be as honset as possible... Thank You

  1. all you seem to be doing is running from one problem to another.  when you move you bring all your baggage with you.  if you and your children have medical problems you sure don't seem bothered by it, you go to work and you are constantly on the move.

if you and your husband are having trouble making ends meet, get second jobs instead of sitting on your behind collecting welfare!!!

  2. if you think you can make it move why not take a chance

  3. you were crazy to move to south florida in the first place. there r hardly any jobs here. but i think you should move but dont just go by the yahoo answers discuss it with your family

  4. Well, I actually read your details and as you said you want to get off welfare...That part i can relate too! I think that if you move it sounds like a good thing! You and your husband get to work and your family would get the benefits!

As for your son and the Surgeon you should ask the surgeon if he could recommend another surgeon in the area that you'd be moving to.

Goodluck to you and your family and may God bless you guys!

  5. Before you do this, do some research. Check out the company you want to work at. Are they financially secure? Make sure there are jobs available. In fact, you might arrange the jobs before you go.

Next, check out the medical care for your kids. Is there adequate care a reasonable distance away? Find out about waiting periods on the company insurance. You would not have medicaid during that period, so you might have to cover some medical costs.

I see no reason why you shouldn't consider doing this. Just check out everything thoroughly so that you don't get there and have some nasty surprises. Good luck!
