  1. It is important that children learn that there are many different religions, that some people have no religion, and that no one way is best. It is even more important that educational institutions not indoctrinate kids in thinking one religion is better unless the school itself is based on a particular religion.

  2. I do not know why people are so hesitant about teaching kids about religion and such.

I think that it is a great way to teach children about the different options that there are in the world!

Whenever someone provides religious teaching to children, people automatically assume that religion is being forced down their throat or something!

In Christianity, there is no "requirement" BUT, there are COUNTLESS opportunities!

As Christian parents, they should raise the children in the way in which they want/hope for the children to live their life. BUT- just because you take a child to church every sunday does NOT mean that the child will choose to be a christian.

Being "religious" is a personal decision, and the only thing parents can do is facilitate in that journey for a child.

  3. I believe that it is the need of hour to teach kids about their faiths as it'll help in a major way to establish the characters and other major traits they'll have in their lives. Especially for Sikhs as I am one and feel that Sikhs should come forward in this line. It's Sikh children that are behind most of the time in this criteria.

  4. yes, provide some religious background or they will not be able to relate to others and understand their religions..If you don't have a religion, visit other religious events in community, and celebrate the holidays that the local schools celebrate. Saying prayers and having a routine of belonging to religious groups and practicing religion was shown in studies to provide a longer life and prayer has aided in healings when sick. The child can decide when an adult on their future direction, but at least you provided the basic training and exposure to different beliefs.

  5. I think the child's parents and church, temple, synagogue etc, whichever applies,  should teach children about religion from an early age.  If the child is attending a religious school, the school should provide instruction.  In church preschools bible stories are part of the curriculum.

I don't think that the public schools should teach young children about religions.  At the high school level, a world's religions class would be an excellent elective.  A person who is confident in their faith does not need to withhold information about other beliefs from the children.  A 17year-old student who reads about others beliefs won't be swayed unless they are already waivering in their devotion.
