Hi everyone.

I was just wondering, should the price of water be raised?

I am doing a study of it and I would like your opinions on it, In Australia we are currently facing a massive drought and water levels have dropped from 50% to 30% in only around a year.

Do you think that increasing the price of water will have a positive or negative affect on society.

Please post views on both sides of the topic if you can. Thanks very much!

If you have any statistics, it would be a great help.

I would also like to know the current approximate price of water in Australia.

  1. Raising prices is the most practical method of reducing demand.

  2. Besides raising the price of water, educating the public is important as well, to prevent waste.

A well informed public is able to save and reuse water more effectively.

This doesnt just apply for Australia, it applies for all countries.

  3. Water in australia is ship and i wouldnt pay 4 it! Negative impact alright!

  4. The price of water will rise on it's own, that's the law of supply and demand.  And yes, even if there is a fixed price set by the governement,  taxes will rise to pay the difference, the government might redo the budget, whatever,  but the price will rise.

  5. Well, i live in NZ (near Australia) and the water is free.

In Australia the water tastes vary yuck and you have to boil the water THEN cool it down.

So i think the idea of raising water prices is a BAD idea.

  6. I think we should 1st provide minimum water for drinking to each and everyone, then raise the price for all.

Let us not forget those who do not even get some food.

BUT, I do share this concern.
