Should we respond with a thank-you to an e-mail?

To let the sender know it's been received, or do we spare him/her from having to read an unnecessary note?

  1. You could always write an email with a subject line like this [but no content in the body]:

    "Got your message, thanks!  <eom>"

    <eom> = end of message

    That way, they see it in their mail list, but don't need to open it.


  2. For businesses,it often helps, but at this time I do not think itis required for a person here.

  3. Marissa is right.  Unless you have something else to say, they already know or else someone would have invented "Your Welcome" cards.

  4. spare the junk mail-if the sender wanted to know, they would have selected delivery or read receipt
