Question:

Should we stay longer in Luxor, Egypt or Petra, Jordan?

My wife and I will be traveling in October to Egypt and Jordan. I have two possible itineraries for our trip because of the schedules of the ferries. One itinerary will have us in Luxor for 2 nights and only 4 nights total for Jordan. The other itinerary will only give us 1 night in Luxor but 5 nights in Jordan.

The question is, is there more to do in Luxor than a day and a half would allow, or should we use the extra time in Petra? What place has more to see and do?

Thanks

  1. Well there's certainly more to do and see in Luxor because you have Karnak which can be a whole day easily, the Temple of Luxor and then the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.

Even in October the Valley of the Kings will be unbelievably hot so be prepared.

On the other hand only four days in Jordan is a bit tight.

You really need two whole days to see Petra properly especially if you want to go to the High Place of Sacrifice and the Monastery which are both steep climbs.

From the cafe at the bottom up to the Monastery can be done in 40 minutes if you keep going, there is another cafe at the top but if you go on further up you get fantastic views over the whole area.

I would favour Petra because it is so unique. There's nowhere else like it

  2. hello im from jordan i recommend the petra !!

p.s in egypt and jorden only drink minral water and good qualty

if i dnt do that i get sick every year trust me and try not to eat any kind

of meat u hav to be very choosy there and cheack the expiary date on everything!!

  3. i think to stay londer in luxor cause from luxor to aswan with cruise there are alot to see, in Luxor because you have Karnak which can be a whole day easily, the Temple of Luxor and then the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.edfu , dandara temple , unfinished obliskes , high dam , tomb of tut ankh amon all these sight seeing need at less four nights five days to see it. as for petra i think over night is enough for it.for more information please contact me .....ashehata@egypttoplight.net

  4. i think you gotta go on a nile cruise. you fly from cairo, to either Aswan or Luxor, and sail to Aswan to Luxor, on the way, you stop by every day to check out these historical places, like Memnon, Dendara and a lot more, and at nights thereis parties and everything on the boat.

i think you gotta cancel Jordan and go on the cruise in Egypt, it usuallt takes 4 days.

    have fun

p.s. im not egyptian that im sayin all this.

  5. you should visit Lebanon on your way ;)

    no stay more in Petra

  6. What you could do is take a bus from amman to aqaba stay a night or 2, then on the way back see Petra, take a bus back to amman, there is nothing to do in petra after you have seen it, which only takes a 1/2 day of sightseeing. Stay at Hamamat Main(hot springs) thats a day. I would recommend the dead sea. Also Jerash has alot of nice Roman ruins to see.
