Should we stop funding the Royal Family?

I don't want ANY of my tax money to go to them. I like the Queen, who on earth couldn't, she's been brilliant. I hate ALL of her sons, particularly Andrew and Charles. I HATE Princess Michael of Kent, and a lot of the other, more provincial "hanger ons". I have never met them. I care about my family than them, I would rather the money I slog away at work for to go towards me and my family than this stuck up, inbred bunch of Germans

Why should we pay for these billionaires to live.

People will now spout off about how they only cost us 50p a year to fund the entire family, but it's all rubbish. We own their estates, the palaces and the castles, they're public property - I'd rather sell them than have them live their, we pay for police protection, we should own the suchy of Cornwall not Charles

What a bitter and twisted view!!!!

The Royal Estates were given over as Crown Property in exchange for the Privy Purse.  As such they bring in huge revenue to the government - far more than is paid to the royal family in the privy purse!!

So in fact if you got your way the estates would have to be returned and you would end up paying more tax not less!!!

But please try and mature enough to control your emotions and give up hatred and your obvious class bitterness all it will do is hurt you and the way you see things which will hinder you as you go through life!!!

It would not be any cheaper to support a President than it is to support the royal family, at least so I understand.  And we would have to have more tiresome elections. The royal family is cheap at the price.

If we get rid of them what do we replace them with? We really need an apolitical standard to rally round to define ourselves as British. I agree that they're MUCH too expensive and the present lot seem to be a bunch of dissolute buffoons but let's keep a politically neutral standard to rally round otherwise we could easily become pawns of left or right wing political extremists. And, as an afterthought, they're probably still cheaper than EU membership and a lot more useful.

Its quite funny how stupid some people are. And jeolous. If you had just been through training for Flying Officer, you want to fly and gain experience. We he parked his chopper in kates Bush (wahey), it was an open space and anyway, no one even got out of the helicopter. Shut up and stop your whining!!!

I'm a staunch monarchist, and i have utmost respect for the older generation of Royals - The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Duchess of Gloucester, Duchess of Kent... But h**l, I don't like the idea of paying for Prince William's showing off in front of his girlfriend.

If William continues to be just an arrogant preppy, then I'd say abolish the Monarchy after Prince Charles. Better Republic then Monarchy under care-for-nothing-but-clubbing Willy.

yes get rid of every single 1 of them! They take a dam site more than they bring in to this country with all their fancy residences, clothes, cars, police protection (for not only the immediate royal family but all in sundry who have tagged onto them!) not to mention all the other so called *expenses*

Yes we should stop funding the Royal Family, they all have property, land and money and are well able to fund themselves now.  There are too many hangers-on in the Royal Family and I do not see why my tax's should go to them.  The good old days have long since gone when the peasants supported the Royals, let them support themselves. There are people in this country that cannot put food on their table and the Royals have flunkies just to iron a newspaper before they read it! I do not care if it costs only 50p a year to fund them, if I want to go and visit their castles/Buckingham Palace etc I have to pay an arm and a leg  to get inside as a visitor and its our tax's that are paying for it.

So definitely a big fat YES to stop funding the Royal Family.  I think I should add that I have great respect for the Queen and as a figurehead for the UK and Ireland she is great!

Why waste so much energy on something which as you point out yourself costs us all very little. I really don't think your extra 50p is going to make any difference to your family.  Maybe going to anger management classes might improve life for your family because anyone who is this angry over nothing has to be angry about almost everything.

I think we should get rid of all the hangers on.  They have leeched off us for long enough.  Keep the Queen and I suppose Phillip if we must but let the rest look after themselves....after all they are only in their positions because their ancestors were smarter than mine...and yours. The were better at raping and pillaging! They have led privileged lives and when you see those kids of Andrew's costing the taxpayers inordinate amounts of money for protection it is just ridiculous and unnecessary.  Clear the lot out and make them get 'proper' jobs!...and they aren't even Brits...another lot of sponging immigrants!

DippyD...I think that visitors would come just to see the buildings and the history of UK...Don't think if we had no monarchy it would stop the people coming  with their money!  There is no monarchy in Italy but they have millions of visitors a year to look at their architecture and soak up the history!

The royal family bring a lot of money into the country too, and not just into London a lot of foreign tourists have long holidays in the UK and visit the whole country but the main reason that has brought them here has been the royal family!
