The Ten Commandments:

(1) - You shall have no other God’s but me.

(2) - You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.

(3) - You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

(4) - You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.

(5) - Respect your father and mother.

(6) - You must not kill.

(7) - You must not commit adultery.

(8) - You must not steal.

(9) - You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.

(10) -You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour.

Questions I ask, I like to post my own answer to the question so that I can research by knowing other peoples views.

Moses gave his people the ‘Ten commandments‘ given to him by Almighty God.

Almighty God - Asks us to ‘TRY’ and obey the commandments because they cannot be obeyed 100%

i.e. you break commandment (6) when you kill a fly.

  1. I have my own set of rules that I intend to pass onto my child. I am an atheist and see little use in folklore and myths other than for stories!

  2. Yes - even if YOU are not a religious person doesn't mean that they will choose not to be - and the TC are really just good form for anyone.  If everyone tried to do it everyday then I think we would have a kinder world.....maybe that is what he had in mind when he came up with them...

  3. Yes, you've got to teach them these. These are fundamental rules that grow on you as go on in life. Each one of them priceless. They may seem mythological to some who are prejudiced against religion but these are what make life meaningful and worth living. But saying that killing a fly we break commandment 6 is somewhat ridiculous.

  4. No. Not everyone is religious.

  5. Whatever the form, be it religious edicts, general moral compass, whatever, these are the basic laws of civilized culture.  If you wish to avoid incarceration, you would do best to abide by them.

That being said, many factory jobs now require working on Sundays, and advertising is built on the concept that we covet our neighbor's good, and his wife...but only in moderation.

  6. Yes I belive it would be a good thing. But I question your motives. Because how can you follow something when you intentionally re-wrote it? Anyways here is a copy of the real commandments not some liberal hippie version.

Its not KILL it is MURDER. There is a difference.

    Ten Commandment"s

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'

    SIX: 'You shall not murder.'

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'

    EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'

TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
