Should windows defender & AVG anti-virus work together?

I have just downloaded AVG anti-virus 8.0 free. I have windows vista premium. Do i need windows defender turned on also and is windows firewall o.k? Thanks in advance!

They should work together.  Windows Defender is mostly just a spyware guard (and a pretty poor one at that).  You should only have 1 antivirus and 1 firewall, but you can have multiple antispyware apps.  You probably wouldn't hurt anything disabling Windows Defender; personally i've never seen it defend against anything.

  3. I use them together - it's perfectly safe. As a rule scanners will run together with no problems, firewalls will conflict though, so you should only be running one.
