Should you apologise if you injure someone in a moshpit?

the reason you're in a moshpit is because you like a bit of rough and tumble. it seems ridiculous to apologise for treading on someone's foot or accidentally punching them. Why did they join the moshpit in the first place?

  1. Definitely - any time you injure someone, you should apologize and make sure the other person is okay.  In the US, if it is a serious injury, it's the law. (Although it's unlikely that an injury that bad would happen in a moshpit...)  In any case, it is common courtesy and politeness and others will definitely appreciate the gesture, or atleast be less angry with you.

  2. Certainly.

You should apologise if you injure anyone under any circumstances, even if you think you may have injured someone you should apologise.

  3. You should definitely apologise to someone that you hit, punch, or jump on in a mosh pit. In Australia, a couple of years ago a girl died in a mosh pit.

If you injure someone badly and they are either disabled for life or killed as a result of this and you show no contrition for it you could spend a long time in jail in this country for manslaughter. The injured party or their family may also choose to sue you or your family for damages if they were disabled.

If you apologise and do something about getting an ambulance, say if the person falls down, can't get their breath and get up, that is, you are seen to be actively doing something to revive him/her; then you are a lot less likely to be found guilty of manslaughter, should they not live - probably assault or some form of negligent conduct.

This is not legal advice. It is just my personal opinion. I do not take any responsibility for any decisions that you take based on the legal aspects of these opions. If you want legal advice in relation to this matter please see a lawyer as there are serious legal ramifications in relation to it.

  4. If you feel you should apologize, then go right ahead.

If they're seriously injured... then yes. You should.
