  1. I break both racks the same. I place the cueball on the left side of table behind the headstring and aim for left ball right behind the front center ball. Works out well. I also give the stroke slight bottom english to bring it towards the middle of the table.

  2. In 9 ball, it's easier to try to get the one ball in the side pocket by breaking from near the rail.  Also, because there are fewer balls, you can use a softer break and get better control of the cue ball.  And because the one ball is always the head ball and you have to hit it first, there aren't many variations, either hit it full, or cut it so the cue ball goes off the side rail and back in to the rack.

In 8 ball, there are more balls so you have to hit it harder to get a good spread.  You can also utilize the full hit or cut method on the head ball, but you can also aim to hit the second ball in the rack.  Cue ball control is still important because you can shoot any ball you want after the break.

  3. Tims right a lighter break for 9 will let you control the cue a little better. B 75 I hope the ref isnt watching you have to hit the head ball ( 1 ) in 9 ball for it to be a legal break

  4. I do but my break in 8ball is not always positive.
