Should you call 911 if a power line is on fire?

last friday a transformer caught on fire during a lightning storm and i called 911...then the transformer blew up! was that the right thing to do...?

  1. Yes, that is classified as an emergency, which is what 911 is for.  If there is any kind of a fire, or a danger to you or the public, you must call 911.  

    Also, depending on where you live, if you saw a fire and did not alert someone, and then someone is hurt by it, you could be liable.

  7. is there anyone hurt if not call the electric company in your area, if you don't know it or can't find it then YES! as someone else said if you didn't report it you could have been held liable

  8. Yes.  Your telephone lines do not get their power from the power company.  They get their power from within the phone lines themselves (phone equipment all runs on 48 volt DC power).  Placing a phone call did not overtax the transformer causing it to explode.
