Should you get kicked out for throwing the Octopus in another arena?

A Wings fan was booted after throwing an octopus in Mellon Arena last night. He was able to sneak back in with another ticket. Do you guys believe that it is unsportsmanlike to throw the octopus in the other team's arena?

  1. totally it really annoys me i think it should be allowed in detroit but not anywhere else. no one will accept the tradition as long as the wings fans are chunking dead octopi on the other teams ice

  2. no because I'm a wings fan! :D

what does it matter? it's just an octopus...seriously they shouldn't be freaking out about a little octopus. that guy is like my new hero! pittsburgh fans seem to be loud, annoying, and rude. they were banging on the glass and screaming all during the game.

  3. It's stupid anyway. I don't mind killing animals if you are going to eat it. Hunting and fishing...I'm fine with that. But the octopiuare killed so they can be thrown on ice? That is horrible. I honestly don't care if it was home or away. I just think that is so horrible that the poor creature was killed and is just thrown on the ice like nothing.

It is unsportsmanlike but I don't think it really matters. It's hockey. What I do have a problem with is him being able to get back in the arena. He was thrown out for a reason. If they didn't care about what he did, he wouldn't have been kicked out, and should therefore not be allowed to come back.

Greg - A jersey is a little different from a squid, we're not going to throw you out for that.

I'm sure Detroit has no problem picking up hats either. People in Pittsburgh aren't to keen on picking up squid that don't support or belong to us. lol (You know I'm just giving you a hard time right? I don't really mean it.)

  4. Yes.  It's a delay of game and obstruction.  The fans should keep their crappy traditions in their team's arena.

  5. I understand tradition and all, I'm just not a fan of this practice. However, if its the thing you do in your arena and its acceptable, go nuts, but don't do it elsewhere. That's like going to your friends house an dputting your feet on the cofee table.

  6. no its mad funny

  7. No its awesome.

  8. this fan is my hero.

  9. yes they should only be able to do that at home. i think its somewhat rude to do that considering mostly everyone at mellon arena last night was a penguins fan.

  10. no. its wonderful when one of our guys sneaks one in another arena. part of the game.

  11. Its not Unsportsmanlike. Its just Hockey, and there are die hard fans. Big Deal...but this guy is totally my hero

  12. It's funny and shows support.  It isn't like you throw it at Therrian or Sydney.

  13. Unsportsmanlike, no.  That's a true fan who wants to represent Detroit in enemy territory.  As for getting kicked out, a lot of arenas will do it.  Last  year in game 4 of the Wings/Sharks series in SJ, a sharks fan threw an actual SHARK on the ice, and was kicked out.  The fans loved it, but the employees of the arena felt it was unacceptable.

  14. No - it was great :D

  15. Yeah, I think it's unsportsmanlike, but I think it's awesome.  How can you throw someone out just for supporting another team?  Are you going to throw someone out for wearing a Wings jersey?

And while throwing something on the ice is a much different form of support... do you throw people out if they throw their hat after a player's third goal?  If not, then it's hypocritical to throw someone out for throwing the octopus.  What was the official reasoning?

And I think it's crazy that he was able to score two tickets, after so much of the bandwagon was shut out from even getting one.

EDIT:  15 til 16:  I know a jersey is different.  But a hat is not... you can't accept one thing being thrown onto the ice, and throw someone out for something else.  That's hypocrisy.  Both are ways to show support, but I'm sure the pens have no problems with hats being thrown.
