I'm currently looking for work. I called a number that was on Hotjobs and they wanted money for setting me up in their database. Don't they get paid by the employer?

  1. Employers get people one of three ways.  They recruit through ads, postings on job boards (monster, hotjobs, etc) or use temp to hire through temp agencies, or hire active recruiters.

None of these options cost the job seeker.  Recruiting companies like the one you mention are not job recruiters per se.  Mainly, you pay them, do all the work on resumes and whatever, and then they pretty much go over the ads and job announcements and notify you of what's available. Rarely, if ever, do they actually provide the recruitment for any company.

  2. They should.

Reputable recruiters don't charge the individual jobseekers, they charge the employers.

  3. hello - find a recruiter in your field with company contacts.  they will not ask you for money.  good luck!
