Should you keep leftover roots when taking out a plant to decompose into compost?

If i have two full-grown plants in the same pot, and one dies, will it's leftover roots decompose and turn into nutrients for the other?

  1. If you can take both plants out of the container, and remove everything, that's a

    good opportunity to re-plant your living plant

    and add some new organic soil.  The old

    soil is probably pretty depleted.

    If it's too hard to take both plants out, just cut down between the plants with a sharp knife and pull out the dead one.  Add new soil where the old plant was and just leave it's roots in the soil.  Yes, they will rot and feed the other plant, but it will take a long time.


  2. yes it does add nutrients to your other plant.  But you may want to remove it and re plant if the other plant died from a disease or mold.  Most likely you would have noticed this by now and everything is okay.
