i tried to learn how to swim but never succeeded, however, i think that i can at least float. But when you are rowing, is there any danger of falling into the water, does a boat typically have some kind of secuirty strap or something?

  1. Yes you don't need to be a gold metalist swimmer but you do need to be able to be comfortable and swim.  I know that the teams here require you to do a swim test (I think it was a 50, 2 laps, and float for around 5 minutes).  I think you should take some lessons at the Y before you try out.  A security strap would be very dangerous if the boat flipped and you were stuck underwater

  2. i think if you plan on goin near water at any occasion you should be able to swim, let alone a rowing team. seems like common sense to me

  3. i think that if ur goin to be on a rowing team u should seek swiming lessons.. i think u would be more comfortable  and forcus in yourself as a rower on your team..

never know what can happen they say never say never

  4. There is no strap to keep you in. if a boat flipped you would not want to be strapped to the boat when it is upside down. I work as a kayaking coach at a local rowing/kayaking club. all of our athletes must sign a form to say that they are able to swim. It would be dangerous not to be able to.

  5. Difinitely should know how to swim, otherwise you would be in the drowning team; And you will be the leader.
