What're the differences in either style? Why should I go with one or the other?

I've always wondered....

  1. In the book where Tiger wrote it, he says he have tried two different types of putting styles.

one was when he putted with his feet together and other was with longer than the shoulder length apart.

I am a 2 handicapper and usually score in the low 70's or high 60's but some rounds just mess me up.

I can tell you that having a shoulder width posture can give you stability, but not the feel.

Me, personally would go with the half way distance from shoulder width to feet together.

    Hope it helped.

  2. You should go with your feet together. With your feet together it causes your shoulders to be more of a pendulum swing instead of some weird swing. Also buy a putter called Heavy Putter, yes that is the name of the putter, what it does for your putts is it creates more of a pendulum swing because it is heavier than a standard putter causing you to stay straight with your putts

  3. You should put with your feet shoulder length apart.  It is a more natural stance and it gives you good balance and less chance to make a mistake while hitting the ball.

  4. I putt with close but not quite touching each other,  I also use a cross-handed grip when I putt.

  5. I would advise that you try both stances and see which feels fluid and comfortable without any jerky movements. Stick with the stance that gives you that smooth, even putt. This is very individual as to which works for someone.

  6. Putting styles are usually unique to players. Some crouch, others stand straight, some bend at the waist, others bend at the knees, some use a narrow stance, others spread their feet wide apart and many just a normal shoulder width stance.Putters will stroke the ball from a short back swing while others have a rhythmic smooth back and smooth follow through. The thing to do is find one which will fit your personality. Don't spend too much time over a putt.

  7. Putting is nothing like swinging any of your other clubs.  Putting can be individualized to whatever you are comfortable with and whatever works for you.  There is definitley no right or wrong way, just whatever works for you.  I personally use a slightly wider than shoulder stance.

  8. I've seen both used but I suppose feet apart gives you more balance and stability. I don't see how the feet together would achieve greater accuracy. I use feet shoulder-length apart.
