  1. nooooo.... you should only take protein on workout days... when you work out the extra protein is synthesized and turns to muscle.. when you dont workout it is barely synthesized and turn to FAT! and you dont want that right? SO only in workout days..

  2. Yes you should.  Especially since you are trying to lose weight your going to need all the protein you can get to keep your muscle mass.  A good time to get in a shake would be in the morning because your body needs it from not getting in anything all night.

  3. There is absolutely NO problem with drinking your protein on Non-workout days. Its basically a food supplement, so go for it, just be sure you make note of the shakes other ingredients such as fats, carbs yada yada. They sell MRP's( meal replacement shakes) which a very well balanced meals in a shake, and you can use them  everyday if you wish, just make sure you eat real food too or you'll find yourself hungry at the end of the day.

    Benefits of using MRP's

(1st) you will GET your very important protein for the day. If your planning to build muscle mass the most important thing you need to get is enough PROTEIN EVERYDAY. If you want to build muscle, keep your body always fed with good clean meals by eating several small meals throughout the day, every 2-3 hours and MRP's are so helpful for doing so.

(2nd) for the convenience of replacing a meal, eating 5-6 meals a day isn't fun, it can be tedious for me at times.

    One suggestion for you though...

You say you plan to lose weight AND Get big. Try to lose the unwanted weight first, then begin building muscle once you've achieved your weight loss.

By trying to do both at the same time is very counter productive ;)

    Hope this helps

  4. Yes, definitely.  When you workout your muscle fibers are being broken down.  The point of protein is to give your muscles the essential nutrients to repair and rebuild these fibers stronger.

On non-workout days the muscles you worked out on the previous day are still broken down and resting, they still need the essential protein for them to rebuild and repair themselves.

In fact, not only do you need a protein drink, all your meals should contain sufficient protein to keep your body from eating away at your muscles as a source of fuel.  When this occurs you are in what is called a "catabolic state".  You need sufficient protein every 3 hours.

During the nighttime you are going a good 6-8 hours without protein, so you need a slow-digesting protein that will last you for the night, the best supplement for this is Optimum 100 Percent Casein protein, which can be bought at a local vitamin store.

    Best of luck!

  5. You need about 70-80 grams of high quality protein a day if you're working out with weights and you need it on your off days more than on your W.O. day because your muscles are rebuilding and recuperating when they are resting (off days). Too much of anything you eat can be converted into fat if you consume more calories than your use or burn up so it will depend on your metabolism as to how many total calories you consume.
