  1. I think its a wonderful thing to be able to do.  You see more and learn more by going there than you would in any books.  Talking, meeting and living with people from abroad makes you understand people more and makes you less ignorant.  It also makes you independent and you can't just run to your parents as they are not there.  The only disadvantage is the fact that it costs but you can get jobs along the way to help pay.  The only other disadvantage is that you can't necessarily just come home when it gets difficult.

    Go 4 it!

  2. GO. It is very important, people continually tell me that only 14% of Americans have passports, which is why they are so ignorant on the rest of the world.

Remember also that there is a quality/ quantity trade-off, if you just whizz around, it's like a series of 2-week vacations strung together, and not real travelling. You are better settling into a country and taking local language courses. Even then, just staying in youth hostels you will not meet local people and truly undestand their customs, so volunterr working is a good idea. So for that reason, I would recommend latin America where you can learn spanish, see many countries with the same language, and afterwards your language skills boost your CV. Its cheap too.

  3. i consider it a wastage of time as everything is present in india these days

  4. its definitely an experience & not a waste of time. there is so much to learn from travelling abroad. interacting with different  people, commuting in strange lands, eating different cuisines, sight seeing of places, museums etc just widen a person's horizon. we can never learn enough. travel is a learning experience. whether u want to settle abroad is your own choice & decision but travel is an experience which everyone who can afford must have. travel can also mean travelling in your own country. India has so much to see too

  5. From personal experience I can say it is the best thing that can ever happen to a young person. it broadens the mind and makes one find new friends. Racial problems are diminished by it. I think everyone should do that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. It's life changing.  Go!

  7. Travelling as a young person gave me a huge life expirence. Taught me many things about life, people, culture. Young people should try it.

  8. I think it depends on the type of person.  Some people are content with living 5 minutes from where they grew-up where as other people need to explore.  I studied abroad in college and thought it was the best experience of my life.  First off, I went to study Spanish, and I can say without a doubt I learned more Spanish in those 4 months then I did in the previous 6 years of taking classes.  Secondly, it gave me a chance to open my eyes and see that there are different cultures and different ways of life then what I was accustom to even after living in the cultural melting pot of the United States.  Study abroad programs are relatively short (normally 4-6 months) but what you learn and experience will be with you for a lifetime.  But as I said in the beginning its not for everyone because there is always culture shock and home sickness.  Some people are more independent and some people are more close-knit.
