  1. No,overweight baggage ain't the same as overweight people!

I think doing that is discrimination against fat people..oh god i hope they do NOT do that, its unfair to the fat people.

  2. no it shouldn't' there are some fat poor people out there who want an airline ticket

  3. well that whole thing discriminates the fat people, you may have a hidden hate for fat people

  4. I want to offer a different perspective.  I am a large lady.  I was sick for a few years and had to take alot of  steroids and treatments.  I gained nearly 100 lbs.  Now, I am terrified of flying - simply becuase the seat belt barely fits and I have to jam myself into the corner as to not have my fat **** bumping into my neighbor.  It is horrible.  I cry when I go to the airport and hope to God that I have a compassionate neighbor on the plane.  I am dieting and working out, but it takes time.  I usually try to get first class or business class seats and oftne will move if there is another seat open with nobody next to it.  But, the sheer anxiety of flying is horrible for me.

It's horrible to be fat.  I can tell you that I am trying to lose the weight but it is tough.  I can't starve myself, I have children and a job and family and home, I have to be on my A game.  But people can make me feel so terrible about it.

I don't think it's fair that a fat person takes up more than one seat, but try to look at it from the other end.  It's not like fat people, (well at least not me) are rejoicing in their fatness on the plane.  We are very embarrassed and self conscious and unhappy.  I only fly when I have to these days so I don't get glares and sighs from the skinny people.

I would never wish obesity on my worst enemy.  It is not fun.

    edit:

Can you imagine how horrible it would be to have to stand in line, in front of a million people and have the flight attendant or someone weigh a person to see how much they have to pay??  Oh my goodness.

I think most of us don't choose to be fat.  We're fat.  Most of us are working on it... trying to be lighter.  But please, spare us from more embarrassment.  We can barely walk down the street without snickering....  give me a break, please!!??

  5. no, i can just see all the lawsuits coming!

  6. yes > mine would be cheap as chips! :-)

actually no, i don't think this. but i DO think that if someone is so large they cannot fit into an ordinary seat as in professorc's example, they should pay for business class / first class or for two seats. i'm not trying to be mean in saying this btw, and i know some people are large due to medications etc.

  7. Although a better indicator of fees, it does discriminate

  8. No, airline ticket costs should be based on what the market will bear, as long as safety and hygeine are not compromised.

  9. It would discrimate against the tall or heavy, not cool

  10. That's discrimination.

Should a tanning sallon charge more depending on the colour of your skin?

Should the cost of computer lessons cost more depending on whether you are male or female? (It has been proved that men are more technical minded, where women are better at problem solving, hence takes longer for women to learn, requiring more of the teachers time)

EDIT - Jessica A - Why should pregnant women not pay for TWO tickets then? I mean, we didn't ask for you to be pregnant just like you didn't ask people to be fat.

You're just a sour person with a hate for fat peoople. To answer a question you would probably ask, no, I am not fat. But I went travelling all over Europe with my friend who was overweight, and if he had to pay more, I would be just as outraged as him.

EDIT 2 - And I think people with children should be put up the back of the plane in a sound proof room. When I get on a plane from London to Sydney, it takes 24 hours to fly. The last thing I want is to have to deal with a freaking baby screaming and crying. I don't care if the baby is being breast fed, it might actually shut the little f**ker up for a while. But I can not stand it when the parent sits there with headphones on watching TV when I am trying to sleep and their baby is laying there crying. You claim of fat people stinking? Have you ever smelt it when the baby sh*ts itself in such a small enclosed area? It's sickening!!! Kids and babies shouldnt be allowed to fly... or they should be kept in the luggage hold hahaha

  11. Yes.  It costs more to fly a 200 pound person than it does a 130 pound person.

I have had the misfortune of being assigned a seat between two sisters (massive obesity).   They expected to be able to lift the seat dividers and take part of MY seat.   I said no.  ''If they wanted a seat and a half then they should have paid for it.""    They were very nasty.  The flight attendant had to move me to first class - because they could not fit in just one seat-  and they got mad because they had to pay for an additional seat.

  12. yes, but only if they have different sized seats to accommodate different sized people that payed different prices............

  13. unfortunately you can't do that, but there yould be an other solution. if ppl don't really fit into their seat, they have to book 2 seats. like that they have enough space and the others as well

  14. yes, its only logical because the heavier you are the more fuel the plane uses up on take offs and flying, why should skinny people have to pay for the fat guy

  15. If someone is so large they cannot comfortably fit into a single seat, they should be required to pay for an additional seat. Otherwise, no.

  16. Only if it will impede on the comfort of other travelers...  Such as a person that would take up more than 1 seat and would make the person in the seat next to them uncomfortable in their paid space.  In that case, the person should purchase 2 seats so that everyone can be comfortable. But, I don't think the airline should make the person pay full price for that extra seat though.

  17. nah, it would discriminate against tall people, and tall people cant help it.

although i wouldnt mind, i dont weigh much, haha.

  18. Theoretically, because you're being carried as freight, same as a UPS package...but if any airline tried that they'd be accused of discrimination against heavy people and the ACLU would file a lawsuit.

  19. maybe, however I do not think that would work.

  20. Yup. The fatter you are the more you should pay. Only exeption is if you have a REAL medical condition ( pregnant is one example ) where you have to put on weight. Not thyroid issues or all of these other " reasons ".  You use more gas, you take up more seating, you stink and p**s me off on flights! Almost as much as the asshats that don't like it when a woman ( completely covered with a special nursing outfit AND cover, along with a blanket seperating her from the others and shes in a window seat she paid for ) breastfeed HER child ( fine, I will let him scream all the way and my **** leak all over your lap! ) It ticks me off we can accomadate fat people but not people doing something as natural as caring for a baby. As long as its done discreetly..... But thats another issue, sorry for the tangent lol.

Yes, pay by weight is a great idea! I wish it wasn't a joke.

  21. I disagree with that. No matter how big or small you are, you take up one seat and that's that. Besides, it would be unfair to those who are a bit above average to have to pay more for the same treatment.

  22. That would be fine if the seating space was also based on it...

  23. I am 60 pounds over weight and have always been heavy.

Personally, I've always wondered why airlines DON'T place a surcharge on the overweight...or discount the underweight.

    EDIT:

SOME people take up one seat...others have fat that rolls over into my seat (experence).

And the point isn't the seat you take, but the weight you add to the plane.  Otherwise, why do they charge extra for overweight bags?

  24. Yes, with a surcharge at the end of the flight based on how aggrevating you or your kids were to other passengers on the flight.

  25. not on your weight but by your size. if your big enough to take up two seats you need to pay for them. Otherwise the cost will just get passed on to the rest of us in the form of higher ticked prices.
