Question:

Shoulder Pain While Running?

Sometimes when I'm doing long distance running, I get very sharp pains in my shoulders (either one). It feels like an injection, it happens like 5 times then goes away. I apparently have not so good posture and should go to a posture doctor or whatever they're called

  1. When running sometimes your shoulders can tighten up not relaxed, That can give you pain in the shoulders, especially long distances, make a conscious effort to shake out your arms and drop your shoulders every so often to relax your shoulders  (say every 20 minutes or when you start to feel your shoulders tightening).  Make sure you run as if your running tall - back straight, aligned with your hips, shoulders dropped in relaxed form, looking straight ahead.  Try not to lean forward when running, this too can cause pain in neck and shoulders.

Good Luck, and don't get discouraged, keep running:)

  2. may be a strain muscle, do you stretch your arms before you run you know your blood goes to your finger tips when you run this causes poor circulation in your upper extremities try pumping up your potassium level.

  3. Try not to flail your arms too much when running because it sounds like you have trouble with your rotator cuffs.Besides that light resistance training to build muscle mass around the shoulder will helpyou when running as well as a cortizone shot to break up calcium deposits which may be a source of your pain also.Seek advice from a professional sports doctor if you have continued pain.

  4. This happens to me too. My coach told me it's because I keep my shoulder muscles too tense when I run. To solve this problem i try to always pay attention to my form. Make sure you aren't clenching your hands together into a fist and try to have a decent posture. If you do feel your shoulders hurting let your arms hang down for a few seconds and shake them out. That usually does the trick.

    Good luck in the future!

  5. go to a doctor, get an icy hot, get an ace bandage, or just don't run
