Question:

Shoulder cortizone shot?

hello. i am an active, 22 year old female. i lift weights regularly, and was a gymnast for 9 years.

i just got a cortizone shot this morning in my left shoulder. the doctor said nothing about refraining from lifting weights & working out. i planned on working out tonight- assuming the sorness will go away. is that ok?? he never said to wait or anything.

-i dont have a serious shoulder issue, i was told my bursar sac was swollen and causing the blood flow to not reach my joints properly-causing my joints to crack and pop and rattle. the cortizone shot it supposed to take the swelling out of the bursar sac allowing the pain to stop.

what do you think? work out? wait? use lighter weights??

thanks in advance!

  1. i would wait at least until tomorrow... cortisone injections tend to become VERY VERY sore in the hours following the injection

in my experience the pain actually got WORSE before slowly easing out... however my issue was in my knee and wasn't as simple as a inflamed bursa sac

    best of luck

  2. I'd lay off it for a few days.  If it's to reduce swelling, you don't want to go straining the joint by lifting on it again.

The real question is, why didn't you ask your doctor?
