Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback DeMarcus Van d**e’s status for the next weekend is unclear, as the team has not updated about scope of the shoulder injury he suffered in the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday (Dec. 16).
d**e suffered the injury twice in the game, which the Steelers lost to the hosts, but the team is yet to come out with details of his latest scare. There is a fear that with increasing doubts around the Steelers’ ability to make the playoffs this season;
the season might be over for him.
First, the player was hurt two minutes to start of the game and returned to the sideline. He again returned on the field to suffer the same blow again after sustaining for a while.
He was helped by the team trainers to be on the sideline after remaining motionless on the ground for a while. Earlier, the team confirmed that the CB will return to play rest of the game but later ruled him out.
Since ousting of the player from the field there is no update about his injury scope or recovery status. Some reports indicated that he was due to have some scans later on Monday, which should determine the gravity of the injury and return situation.
According to those reports, the decision not to allow the player go back on the field was taken by the team’s medical staff after inspecting him for shoulder as well as head injury on the sideline and then in the locker room.
If d**e is out for a week or so, the season might well be over for him. The Steelers have only two games left to play in the regular season and it is not clear if they will be through to the playoffs. Their loss versus the Cowboys, which was unexpected,
has further added to their playoff difficulties. The Cincinnati Bengals are now ahead of them for the second wildcard opportunity and another loss can confirm the Steelers out of the playoff race.
It will be also another serious injury blow in the season. They are already without some key players because of their respective injury scares.
