Question:

Shoulder pain while swimming.

I have been swimming for basically 4 years as well as playing water polo. When swim season started up in February i noticed a pain in my shoulders ( kinda like the high outside of the upper arm) that felt like it was from lactic acid build up but really intense and it was after swimming just a few hundred yards at a slow pace. I tried stretching and used IBuprofen to get through the swim season and it seemed to kinda go away. I played water polo since swim season ended ( in may) which is mostly head-up swimming so i didn't seem to have any pains. I just started swimming a few weeks ago ( head-down) and the pain is back. It feels like a massive build-up of lactic acid. Maybe lack of blood or pinching nerves? Maybe my muscles are really tight and knotted from not stretching? Any help would be appreciated.

  1. It sounds to me that it might, might be a rotator cuff injury, not necessarily torn but maybe the ligaments are stretched and over used.

    hope its of help
