Shouldn't English be the national language in America?

Shouldn't foreigners learn to read, write, and speak English when becoming citizens of America? I believe that English is the national language of America and if any foreigner wants to become a citizen of this nation, they need to learn how to properly read, write, and speak English. If they don't want to learn how to properly read, write, and speak English, then they should go back to where they came from. I'm sick and tired of putting up with foreigners who don't know English.

  1. Nein.  Alle muessen Deutsch sprechen!

  2. Multilingualism helps America in a globalized world. Example:   Miami is a major trading and business center for Latin America. Why?  Because they speak Spanish.  America almost had French as its national language (read your history).  Most of the Southwestern part of the U.S. was taken from Mexico, and it was part of Mexico not all that long ago. Now, it is invested in by people from Mexico. Who does that help? Everyone.  People said the same things you're saying about Italians who came to America, Greeks who came to America, and Germans who came to America.  They all assimilated, and so will everyone else. Relax.

  3. 30 years ago blacks were 30% of the population Caucasians 50% Native Indians 13%  Hispanic 5%, Asians 2%. .

Now hispanics are 25%, Asians 15%, blacks 15%,  Native Indians 10% and Caucasians 35%.

    In 2038 Hispanics 35% Asians 25%  Blacks 10%  Native Indians 10% Caucasians  20%.

Scary but correct. If I were you I will start learning spanish and Chinese or indian.   Caucasians are not immigrating from Europe anymore since there are content. African blacks are being denied visas to immigrate , hispanics swim across the borders daily to increase their numbers, the indians get easy visa as professionals and the chinese, koreans, japanese come as investors swelling their numbers. In 2038 you will see Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and  Indian Signs everywhere and knowledge of at least two of these languages will be a criteria for getting a job.

These 'foreigners' will be in government, business, schools, churches, factories, farms, everywhere controlling everything. First Obama for President next will be a spanish guy , next a chinese guy .

Get real my friend America is changing no one language is going to dominate anymore.

  4. si guey

geez, lighten up i learned the language why cant you do the same for the respect of neighboring country's

  5. You think it's that easy learning another language?  Have you ever learned another language?  I'm guessing not.  Why don't you go and try studying another language for once, then you might get a clue.

  6. English should BE the official national language of USA.

  7. yes it should be, but illegals do not want to assimilate as they are suppose!!!

  8. Absolutely!  Come to our country, learn our language.  Think of the money it would save us.

  9. In America, people speak Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, and other languages, depending on the country

    To person with disabilities

In that case, the yanks should learn english themselves

  10. Around here it should be Cherokee. Further west, Sioux, and south of that, Nez Pierce.

But if your ancestors didn't bother to learn those languages, then clearly we should all strive to be as smart as you and your people.

    How's the weather for you?

  11. I and I believe the majority of this country feel the same.  We need to insist to our Politicians that this be the case, since they whole heartedly refuse to rule on this very issue.  It in fact would SAVE this Government millions if not billions of dollars in paperwork that is redone in several languages.

  12. I say there should be one offical language.  What language that should be should be determined by the people in a national election...with the possiblity to change it at any time should the people want to do so.

  13. Yes, it should.  Where I live I see signs in spanish all over the place but I still believe that a person wanting to live here should learn the language.  Don't us Americans have to learn to speak French or Italian when we go over there?  I did when I was stationed there.  Coming here should merit the same.

  14. Many Americans can't read, write or speak English correctly. I don't think it should be mandatory for foreigners to learn English, but we shouldn't have to accommodate them by providing interpreters either.

  15. No it shouldn't anyone can speak whatever they want and read  in whatever language they want.......

Why do they have to whatever the government tells them or ignorant people with no compassion.... what them to do...

If that law passes they should also pass one for people who want them to learn and see how well they write not all use proper grammar....

I'm also sick and tired of close minded so called "people"

not being well educated ..... and want to change  what doesn't need change.....they should focus on our troops that are suffering

    For this  idiotic answer :

"yes it should be, but illegals do not want to assimilate as they are suppose!!! "

Not everyone is illegal that doesn't talk English most are legal and come from around the world ...... but I guess that "people"

    doesn't have much knowledge...

I call them "people" because that's what they are supposed to be but I don't want to offend the animal's either by calling them one because those people are so much lower and non-compassionate ...

Another thing what is your race?... because I also hate people with Latin names that are Latin and they are so ignorant and just not educated and want to talk c**p of their race.....

  16. I thought the U.S. was the "FREE" country?

  17. No Spanish will be the new language with Hispanics having the fastest growing population, the demand for Spainsh will be much greater then English. Recent poll in Calif 98% of those surveyed want Spainsh as the offical language of America

  18. Absolutely!

  19. If you keep in mind that it's only the lazy people that reside in the U.S. and don't speak English you will have a good idea who to stay away from and not to hire at work.

  20. Absolutely!  99% of Americans feel this way

  21. I agree that English should be the national language.  However, technically, we do not have an official language.  English is the "de facto" language.  The founding fathers' actually did discuss this issue, and purposely decided not to declare one.  They felt that there was no need, as people who were colonizing and settling in the States/colonies were willing to assimilate.  It has also been assumed for years that English would be at least one of the languages that a person spoke, as its necessary to have a basic knowledge for naturalization.

I do think that we should have one official language for government and schools to relieve the tax burden of multiple language printings, ballots, forms, translators, second language instructors, etc...  If we're going to accommodate Spanish, then they need to be fair and accommodate EVERY foreign language.  That would be fair.... but it would be very expensive.  I think that one language is the best way.

I could care less what people speak in their homes or personal lives.... as long as they know English as well.
