Shouldn't There Be Different Weight Classes For Track and Field?

I asked thisyesterday but didn't get a lot of positive feedback So I want to see who here tonight has a good head on their shoulders.

It's totally logical.

In Weightlifting the competitors are separated by weight on account of the heavier you are the stronger you are.

Same as with wrestling and boxing, the heavier you are the stronger you are thus the division of weight categories help (but do not guarantee of course) ensure that the same strengthed competitors are competing against eachother.

Likewise in track, the heavier you are the slower you are.

But there are no weight classes for track.

So whereas the heavyweight division of boxing/wrestling/weightlifting is ultimate class, the lightweight division of the track would be the ultimate class.

So there could be like a heavyweight division of track in which fat guys would be running. And you could say that he is pound for pound the fastest man in the world.

Wouldn't that be fitting and awesome?

I think so.

who else agrees?

  1. Except muscle weighs more than fat, so lightweight doesn't necessarily mean faster.  The statement that the heavier you are the slower you are doesn't hold true for all events.  That may be true for long distance running-if you look at those athletes they are pretty thin anyway, but the sprinters all tend to be muscular.  That can't just be coincidence, there must be a reason that those heavier muscles carry you faster.

  2. No. You condition your body for your race. If you can win, change your body, or race.
