Question:

Shouldn't a baserunner at least make an effort to slide into the bag when he's breaking up a double play?

I mean, a player should be required to at least make some sort of effort to slide into the bag. I see guys going way out of their way to slide into (or spike) a second baseman when he is making the throw to first. Sometimes a few feet from the bag. To me, that's plain old runner interference.

  1. they shouldn't be able to go after the fielder unless they r in the base line and he should be required to slide but you should make an effort to disrupt the play

  2. I baseball levels below MLB you are correct. MLB allows the baserunner to slide where they want as long as they can touch the bag with some part of their body.

  3. I'm not sure i understand your question.if the 2nd baseman is standing on or very close(less than the base path) then yes but to go beyond that should be interference.

  4. baseball rules stipulate that the runner must remain in the 'baseline', basically...you see a lot of players going into second on double plays making wide slides, but it's the ump's call...all that really must happen is that the player be able to touch the base, say with a hand, so it's possible for them to be, bodily as much as six feet or so from the 'baseline' and still be legal...

  5. ya but when some1 is throwing the ball you could interfere i dont know why but this is the rule

  6. in our town the rule is a player MUST slide (other then 1st base) if a play is being made at that bag
