The assumptions I have state that avg daily gain is .7#, feed conversion ratio is 6.8#feed/#gain, and average daily feed consumption is 4.3#feed/day. So if adg is .7#/day and consumption is 4.3#feed/day, shouldnt the feed conversion be 4.3/.7, which is 6.14#feed/#gain? Why would they give 6.8#feed/#gain?

  1. Your numbers are correct but when you cite "they" it would help to answer your question by knowing where the info comes from, who "they" are, what animal, and how the numbers were derived. If you wish, ask the question again with references. As was mentioned the numbers you question may be over a long time period and conversion may, for a specific animal, be a representation of a much greater length of time.

  2. Yes, they should perfectly relate.  If you are given any two you can calculate the third.  Whoever gave you the assumptions made a mistake.  In most cases, feed conversion (F/G) is calculated over a longer period of time than just one day.  (As is avg. daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed consumption)  This may result in some rounding differences, but not by that much.
