Shouldn't they make Harry Potter into a Broadway Play?

Question

Everyone knows about Harry Potter and the extreme uproar of j. K. Rowling's 7 part series of wizarding books. They have the books, the movies, the video games, the role players, the toys, the clubs, etc. So why shouldn't they make a Broadway Musical out of it?

Who votes this is a good idea? (any answers are good- even HP bashers)

Umm...not every movie lends itself well to Broadway. It would be VERY expensive to do all those effects on stage.

I feel the theater needs to get away from strictly commercial endeavors like Legally Blonde the Musical and get back to its roots of showing audiences something new and taking artistic risks.

I absolutely love harry potter. They are without doubt the best series ever written. I love the books. And even though the movies s***w up a lot of stuff, they are still interesting to see. Also, I absolutely LOVE musicals. I have seen at least thirty and I love all of them. However I think a musical of harry potter would be a horrible idea. First of all would you want to condense 7 books into one three hour musical? Or make seven different musicals? Both options are ghastly. Harry Potter just would not fit as a musical.

no! I dont think hp would make a good musical. Its suppose to be serious and dark, not happy-go-lucky and cute! besides, what kind of songs would they make for it? there is not much u can make of it.

The Lord of the Rings musical wasn't fantastic on stage due in part to the fact that the story was simply too long for the time it had on stage. Considering that the Harry Potter series has seven books, and that the movies made so far had to cut parts out for time, I highly doubt a stage version is even possible in the timeframe, much less enjoyable.

Aside from that, the Harry Potter story was simply never meant for the stage. It works in books, movies, video games, and so forth, but not on Broadway. That's one area of marketing that Rowling should just avoid.

I really, really love Harry Potter and I think doing that would make TONS of money- really! I mean, look how much J.K Rowling has!

But it probably would be hard for "Muggles" to make magic look real, but I am sure they can do it- I mean, lazer lights are just a start:)
