Shouldn't we be capitalizing Global Warming just as we do other world religions?

Recently, several news organizations reported that former Vice President Al Gore has called for the reclassification of Global Warming from science to religion (an ideology based in faith and not in fact). While I applaud this move, it does start me to thinking. Why are some people not capitalizing the words Global Warming? I saw in the news today the words written in lower case!!! I just think that Global Warming should be given the same respect as all other major world religions. What do you think?

It is a false religion and based on many half truths.  My thoughts on global warming are:  Global Warming is a trojan horse for Socialism, wake up Americans. Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

Odd, someone just asked this exact same question elsewhere on the site. Since people here seem to like copying and posting, I'll just copy my answer from over there.

Al Gore hasn't done any such thing. Not that it would be meaningful if he had, of course. What politicians and celebrities think about science isn't especially important to me.

Global warming theory is most certainly not a religion. It is simply a scientific theory, and has undergone the same rigorous testing and scrutiny as any other scientific theory. If you wish to claim otherwise I simply demand that you present your evidence supporting this egregious accusation.

In so far as I know, global warming theory does not in any way fit the definition of the word 'religion'. That being 'a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny'. So your question is really meaningless.

I'd also like to point out that the world's major religions aren't deserving of any great deal of respect.

I haven't seen anyhing that Al Gore said about classifying GW as a religion. Do you have a source? And what benefit does Gore have in promoting GW? He's not running. He has been talking this issue since he was a congressman. Was his plan to plant seeds for 30 years to sell a movie?

climate change is a fact ,

thousands of species have already gone exstinct ,

and flora and fauna in the wilderness are getting sick and dying ,breaking vital links in the food chains

Bees are becoming exstinct all over the place ,and when they are not around to polinate the plants ,the plants will also cease to exist.

many people in Mexico ,China, Africa,India  and even France have died as a result of climate change .

all of this is reality so cannot be called a religion ,which is only a belief in the minds of men.
