Shouldn't we be doing something about this global warming issue? What do you think?

I mean, fossil fuels are now so expensive, making gas prices so very expensive. and burning them adds to the increasing global warming issue. What should we do! What can we do? What are your thoughts on this important issue?

There is definitely a lot we, as youngsters can do.

First, start with your own house.....

* stop using plastic. from the time i have come to know about this very important issue, i have started using cloth bags where ever i go. see.... cloth bags are not hard to find.

if you forget to take one.. carry everything or roll them in a paper or dump it in your pocket.. i am telling you the things which are practical enough.. because i do it.  

* DO NOT waste any electricity in your house... first thing you should have in mind is put off the appliances when you are moving out of a room... even if you are going out for a minute... because many such minutes will save us a lot of energy in the long run.

did u know!? on saving one unit of energy we save 500g of coal!!!! so imagine! we can actually save few but very precious kilograms of coal.!!!!

* Improve awareness.... once you let people know what global warming is about and why it is important to do something... they will automatically do all the things they can to contribute..

* And, we, as students can start with our own schools... take help of teachers... write letters to the newspapers or concerned officials on such topics......

FOR EX: in chennai, the municipal corporation itself has taken out campaigns to improve awareness on why it is important to segregate garbage. they were ready to collect the segregated garbage, make good use of the bio-degradable ones (to get good bio-energy) and recycle the others such as plastics.. which would be a GREAT help.

but people are being very ignorant in doing.

so , we definitely can write letters , follow it up and get these things.......................

but....

WE HAVENT STARTED YET...........

WE are waiting for someone to take up the leadership.. not doing it ourselves....

so dear,

DONT ASK FOR CHANGE , BE THE CHANGE.........

and we can save our earth

There is nothing practical to do, and no obvious need to do anything.  The earth's temperature has been fluctuating for billions of years, and will no doubt continue to do so.  Although CO2 in the atmosphere is up about 10% in the last forty years, we have no sure knowledge of whether this is a cause of climate change, a result of it, or completely unrelated.  What we DO know is that anything that people try to do about it will be unbelievably expensive; the UN has proposed a program with a price tag of $557,000,000,000,000 -- more than the total value of every asset on the planet.

Gas is actually just really expensive because the stock-market has crashed. In truth, they've been saying our fossil fuels would run out since my mother was a kid.

You see, America is like the center of the stock-market exchange. It's crashing (the dollar isnt' even worth a dollar), therefore any first world country is crashing as well.

Global warming is not a hoax at all. It's the government and media that lead us to belive it is. Why do you think the polar bear aren't on the endanrged lis? the thing is people are trying to make change because we need it. It's hurdles like the media preventing that.The media has a very unique way of showing whats important the people watching. For some reason they do not show the importance of global warming. Why do you think they say climate change instead of global warming? The reason for this censorship is because industries release more gas than thousands of cars on the road. this planet is getting to hot.

global warming is not a hoax. how do you not feel or see the difference? I live right on the coast and the tide has gradually been eating up the beach foot by foot, in my hometown, in a matter of 9 years there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in the amount of water that floods our basements. The storms and natural disasters have become more angry and devastating (sp?) ie: Katrina, the cyclone in Myanmar, the tornadoes in the mid-west. People say that a foot or so above what the sea-level is today wouldn't make a difference. My town is a foot below sea-level already. Trust me, there is def. something big going on. Not just natural changes. And if it IS just natural changes, then humans weren't supposed to last that long.    We're going to cave in on ourselves.  =[

The primary reason why fossils fuels are expensive is that we are in short supply of oil, not because we are running out, but for the simple fact we are not drilling for oil. Nor are we doing any real exploratory missions for oil.

Pressuring OPEC will not do any good, because oil is on a world wide market, and we get the majority of it from Canada, and Mexico. This leads me to ask, why should America be this dependent upon oil when ANWR has enough oil to supply 1 million barrels a day for the next 30 years ?

Fossil fuels will drop in price when we finally decide to drill for our own oil. Oil is at no time in the near future going to run out. Good old supply and demand is the primary driver of the prices of gasoline at the pump. Ethanol, on the other hand, is expensive, inefficient, and is costing us more at the supermarket than ever. I don’t think that there would be a real market for it, left to its own devices. It has to be subsidized by the government before it gets to the pump, because its very expensive to produce, and lastly it is creating food shortages.

My answer to your question is yes. We should drill now to end this insanity.

We are doing something about it... sort of. All this "going green" stuff is everywhere and a lot of people seem to be catching on. Hopefully it's not just a fad and people will stick with it. Yeah, Hybrids are catching on, but even if people started ditching more of their retarded SUV's and just getting smaller, more economical cars it would make a huge difference. Unfortunately China and India have just discovered oil. After hundreds of years of riding bikes and walking they all want to be cool like the Americans and drive everywhere. Also unfortunately their governments don't have pollution regulations like ours does.

I think it is a crock of $hit, global warming that is. However, I do agree that we need to find an alternative fuel source as fossil fuel is becoming depleted, maybe we can use trash somehow? The landfills are overly packed with junk and we should find a way to use it. As far as what should you do- nothing. If global warming really does exist (which it has been proven Al Gore is a liar and global warming does not exist) it will not affect the planet for another about one million years. I have seen more snow this year than any other year in my life, is that becuase it is getting hotter????

No, it's all a hoax.  What we should be doing is telling our government to quit sucking all of our money up with the cost of fuel.  The world has always been heating up and cooling down.  Lief Erik (viking) reached America 500 years before Columbus because it was strangely warm and the ice packs weren't blocking his way.  That's like ancient global warming... it happens.  Deal with it Al Gore!

Yeah.  The best thing regular people can do is walk, bike, and carpool as often as possible, and stay home as often as possible. If you can afford solar panels, that's a good thing too. Recycle, and plant a garden.  

At Wal Mart, they have these cool cloth bags that say "Paper or Plastic? Neither!" They're a dollar each, and you are supposed to re use them instead of getting a gazillion plastic bags for your groceries. Of course, they say "Wal Mart" at the bottom, so I had to buy neat stickers to put over that part... Then I use them at Save A Lot, and the local farmers market. :D
